Mar 21, 2016 | Blog, March 2016, Samantha Chase
Rae: I want to welcome Samantha Chase to the blog who is here to dish about the Shaughnessy Family. Congratulations on your upcoming release of Love Walks In, the second book in the Shaughnessy Brothers series which will hit bookshelves April 5, 2016. For those readers who are not familiar with the series can you tell us a little bit about the Shaughnessy Family?
SAMANTHA: The Shaughnessy family consists of five brothers and one sister. They are a traditional Irish family who lost their matriarch at a young age. Aidan – the oldest – was 18 when his mother died and his sister Darcy was the baby of the family at only 10 months. Their mother was the heart of the family and when we meet up with them in this series, we are seeing how losing her affected them all in different ways.
Rae: How are they connected to the Montgomery Brothers ? (another must read series – click to read about them )
Samantha: As for how they’re connected to the Montgomerys, the two families knew each other when they were kids – but it was the Montgomery cousins (Ryder, James, Zach and Summer) who knew them. Aidan has done work for James and Selena Montgomery as well as for Ethan and Summer Reed. We haven’t had a major crossover or anything yet. It’s all just been briefly mentioned in the Montgomery books – “Meant for You” and “I’ll Be There”.
Rae: So far we’ve met Aidan who own his own construction company and he is definitely set in his ways. What research did you do to prepare for that book? I know we talked before about this but I have to say I was looking around the house for anything that needed to be “fixed” so I had an excuse to buy my husband more tools 😉 after reading Made For Us.
Samantha: My husband is in construction and has been for over 25 years so the lingo was very familiar to me. Plus, we had just moved in to a brand new house when I was working on this book and we had been having a LOT of dealings with the builder on issues my husband was finding so I thought it would be fun to use some of that in the story. My husband is a perfectionist and sees things no one else sees. It’s both a blessing and a curse!
Rae: In your newest book, the second book in the series, we meet Hugh. This amazing must read is set at an upscale hotel and there is a lot of mention about fine wines. Were there trips to vineyards, tastings or getaways to research for this?
Samantha: Okay, here’s the funnies thing – I don’t drink! I hate wine! However…one of my closest friends DOES work for a wine distributor and she talks about wines a LOT. Almost to the point of my eyes glazing over. I’ve gone to the warehouse and walked around and heard just enough to be dangerous – or to use it in a book. Lol!
Rae: What about Bordeaux Bill, he’s a character. How did he find his way into the story?
Samantha: Yup, Bordeaux Bill is my friend’s boss and he is an absolute RIOT. The first time I met him – and I mean literally the FIRST time, I knew he had to be in a book. He is loud and obnoxious and doesn’t really care who he offends, but he’s got a heart of gold. He was a little disappointed that he wasn’t the hero of the story – and wasn’t getting a love scene – but I think I did him justice.
I think that Bill’s character really was the first part of the story that I really mapped out! Because he’s someone I really know, I already had it worked out what I wanted him to do and the things I wanted him to say so I built a lot of the story around him! Kind of funny that the secondary character got the star treatment!
Rae: I love your new cover designs – fun, flirty and so romantic.
Samantha: Aren’t they beautiful? I am so excited about this new direction! And each book cover just gets better and better. Although I will admit…my absolute favorite is on the third book in the series – “Always My Girl” – which doesn’t come out until July.
Rae: For the Shaughnessy’s how many books will the series have? What about any crossovers between the series?
Samantha: The Shaughnessy series will have six books and there is going to be a trilogy that is an off-shoot of it, but I’m not going to share anything else on them yet! It’s a secret!
Rae: The Montgomery Brothers had six books – can you tell us if there will be anymore?
Samantha: As for the Montgomerys, nothing is on the calendar but I do have three more stories left that I want to tell. It’s just a matter of finding the time to write them!
Rae: Thank you so much for joining me on the blog this week. I can’t wait to share The Shaughnessy Brothers Series with readers.

Hey, Everyone! It’s Samantha Chase and I am super excited to be here today with all of you at Books I Love a Latte (Hey, Rae!) and talking about the newest book in the Montgomery Brothers series, “I’ll Be There”. This is book six in the series and we are looking at the crankiest member of the family – Zach Montgomery. He has a good reason to be that way, but he’s making life crazy for everyone around him. You see…well, I’ll let him tell you about it.
Hey, ladies! Zach Montgomery here. I don’t know about you, but I am a total adrenaline junkie. Or…at least I used to be. I’m not jumping out of planes any time in the near future but man oh man did I have some great trips doing that sort of thing and more! I have some amazing memories from each and every one of my trips but I’ll give you some highlights – you know, just in case you’re looking for your own adrenaline rush!
1. The Rio Grande Bridge – Bungee jumping is always a great adrenaline rush. So hitting New Mexico and doing the jump off the Rio Grande Bridge – you jump and plummet from 565 feet above the Rio Grande.
2. Cage of Death – You can stare into the faces of some of Australia’s biggest saltwater crocodiles for 15 minutes, separated by nothing more than a couple inches of glass. The cage houses two people at a time and Ethan and I tried that one together. Once!
3. Death Drop – Four glorious seconds of terrified regret as you walk off a 53-meter high cliff and free fall at 180 kilometers an hour. You’ll just have time to catch the awesome view of Batoka Gorge before the terror of what you’re doing throws your stomach into your mouth and snaps your eyes shut. Sounds fun, right??
4. Ice Climbing – Those who scale mountains in the summertime go ice climbing in the winter, and there isn’t a more beautiful place to do so than the Canadian Rockies. I think I may need more warm-weather activities!
5. Cresta Run – Cresta Run offers a 130 km/h, body-flattening ride that piles enough G-force to match any rollercoaster. The Cresta opens before Christmas, and continues until spring, but you have to apply to be allowed on the course. Luckily, I was able to get on this and it was well worth it!

Aug 3, 2015 | August 2015, Blog, Coffee With, Samantha Chase

Rae: First, if we were meeting at a coffee shop I’d be drinking a Latte 🙂
What would you order?
Samantha: Okay, don’t laugh…but I would drink hot chocolate. It’s my addiction.
Rae: Thanks so much for taking the time to answer a few questions. Your Montgomery Brothers series is fantastic and a must read! Do you have any more books or novellas planned for this series? I love how each book in the series updates the reader on where past characters are, as well as introducing us to another fabulous Montgomery sibling.
Samantha: I am excited to say that I am getting ready to start writing a seventh Montgomery book! The sixth one – “I’ll be There” – will be out in December and it will conclude the current trilogy. There are three more books (so far!) being planned. They have been such a fun family to create that I think it’s going to be hard to see it end.
Rae: Congrats on your newest release, Made for Us, the first book in your next series he Shaughnessy Brothers. I was hopeful Aidan would get his own story and am thrilled that he has! The Shaughnessy Brothers Series involves construction, were you able to visit any sites to gather research?
Samantha: My husband is in the construction business so a lot of what I wrote about comes from personal experience. It was a lot of crazy lingo and things that the average person doesn’t think about but it was fun to put that knowledge to use.
Rae: Can you tell us how many books will be in this series? Will we see the Montgomery Brothers sprinkled in this new series?
Samantha: The series will have six books total – one for each sibling. And although the series is entitled The Shaughnessy Brothers, we do have one lone Shaughnessy sister. I haven’t put any of the Montgomerys in the stories but all of the stories aren’t written yet so you never know!
Rae: By now in the Blitz I’ve posted my reviews for each book in the Montgomery Series and for those who missed it I’ve included the links below. I’m looking forward to my review tomorrow of Made for Us – I absolutely loved it!
8 Tantalizing Tidbits:
1. A Must read book and why?
Ooo…good question. If I had to tell someone to read one of MY books, I’d say The Christmas Cottage – just because it’s a fun, light-hearted holiday romance. However, if I had to choose another book/another author…I think I would have to choose Nora Roberts Bridal Quartet. I know it’s technically four books, but it’s one of the few series I’ve read that every book is just amazing and the flow of them is so well done. Great contemporary romance with enough heat that will leave you sighing happily.
2. What is one place that I should see if I visit your hometown?
I actually have a LOT of hometowns! I moved a lot when I was growing up. But for the sake of the interview, we’ll go with my current hometown – Wake Forest, NC. There is an amazing park not too far from me that has multiple walking trails, creeks, historic cabins…it’s simply beautiful. Any time you go there, you’ll see bridal parties or prom guests there taking pictures because it’s all so pretty. Definitely a must see.
3. Castles or Beaches?
I’ve always wanted to go and see a castle in person but never have! I do love the beaches, but I burn almost instantly in the sun! Decisions…decisions…can I have a castle on the beach???
4. What is one thing readers would be surprised to know about you?
I’m terrified of the cartoon “Underdog”. And yes, it’s okay to laugh.
5. Hard Rock or Classical? Favorite Band or Artist?
Hard Rock definitely. I’m an 80’s hair band girl all the way. Although I will admit to listening to a lot of Taylor Swift lately! Favorite band? It’s a tie – Bon Jovi and Def Leppard. Love them both!
6. If you had an all expenses paid trip anywhere in the world for research, where would you go?
Australia. I’ve always wanted to go and everything about it fascinates me and it’s probably a trip I wouldn’t do on my own so…yes. Definitely Australia.
7. Tats or No Tats? If tats, how many and what did you choose for your first one?
I actually have three! The first is on my ankle and the artist designed it on the spot for me – it’s very scroll-y and has a cross on the side and wraps around like an ankle bracelet. My husband and I went and got our first tats together for our thirteenth wedding anniversary. He researched for YEARS to find the perfect tat and I walked in and looked at the artist and said, “I kind of want something like this…” and she drew it. The next one I got is on my wrist and says “Chasing Romance” because that’s my logo and then on my forearm I have the enchanted rose from “Beauty and the Beast”. I think I still want one more…
8. Binge watcher or weekly viewer? Which show(s)?
Weekly viewer. It’s funny because I can sit in front of a computer all day and yet an hour in front of the TV and I get antsy! I don’t watch a whole lot of TV but I will faithfully watch “Modern Family”, “The Big Bang Theory” and several HGTV shows – “Love it or List It”, “Fixer Upper” and “Flip or Flop.”
Thank you so much for hanging out – I had a great time 🙂

Author Info:

New York Times and USA Today Bestseller/contemporary romance writer Samantha Chase released her debut novel, Jordan’s Return, in November 2011. Although she waited until she was in her 40’s to publish for the first time, writing has been a lifelong passion. Her motivation to take that step was her students: teaching creative writing to elementary age students all the way up through high school and encouraging those students to follow their writing dreams gave Samantha the confidence to take that step as well. When she’s not working on a new story, she spends her time reading contemporary romances, playing way too many games of Scrabble or Solitaire on Facebook and spending time with her husband of 25 years and their two sons in North Carolina.
