Love Walks In (The Shaughnessy Brothers Book 2) by Samantha Chase is a brilliant, charming and magical love story that shows us what happens when structure collides with the unexpected? It’s difficult to find love when you’re so scheduled that it needs to fall into your lap to discover it.
Hugh Shaughnessy has always had a plan and been in total control, it’s the only way he can guard his heart. Never in his wildest dreams could he imagine what unfolds at work. When Hugh meets Aubrey, its memorable and laugh out loud hysterical! This might just be what Hugh needs to shake him up, if that’s even possible.
For a man who has money and an amazing career, yes I am jealous ;), he’s still not fulfilled. There is something magical about Aubrey. Will she be the one to loosen him up? It’s going to take letting himself go out of his comfort zone, off the scheduled and predictable path, to discover what he needs.
Aubrey Burke is hiding from a huge mistake and unintentionally falls into a temporary life of parties, wine, and a lot of great food. Will she find a happy-ever-after or will she push Hugh away? Will Hugh be the one to stop her from running?
Both have reasons for hesitation when love is involved. Will they be able to trust each other? When they wind up working together they will discover that not everything can be planed out. That theory that opposites attract is put to the test and it will be amazing. It will take a village of family and friends to get these two together.
I love the setting of this novel, it’s the perfect escape from the hectic work week. Sit back with a glass of wine, a decadent cheese plate and a few chocolate truffles and discover how yummy love can be.
Another must read sexy story that has amazing characters – each one has a purpose and there are a few that have become my new favorites! The Shaughnessy Bachelors are interesting, compelling and can handle the unexpected. Oh, did I mention super sexy too? This time the destination is a resort and a vineyard. Two places I would love to be right now!
Samantha, it sounds like we have much to look forward to for the Shaughnessy family. I can’t wait to see whose story is next and where we go!
I received this book from the publisher for a fair and honest review.
Excerpt:
Aubrey woke up the next morning and instantly groaned when she realized last night wasn’t a dream. She had cried all over Hugh until she had practically collapsed. Then he had carried her to her bed and gently put her down, kissing her forehead. And just when she thought he had taken his chance to escape, he was back with a glass of water for her. He made sure she was comfortable, kissed her gently again, and then he was gone.
Ugh. The poor man must be wishing he had just let her rob his office and not interfered. She was a mess. A stinking hot mess. How in the world was she supposed to face him this morning, knowing he must think the same thing of her? Aubrey eyed the balcony, but it was too high to escape that way.
“No more running,” she murmured as she climbed from the bed, still wearing last night’s clothes. It wasn’t particularly early—eight a.m.—but she wasn’t sure if Hugh was an early riser or not. Hopefully he was already down at the office. She’d shower and get herself feeling human again before seeking him out.
Thirty minutes later, dressed in one of her new outfits—black capris and a sky blue sleeveless blouse—Aubrey stepped out into the living room. And froze.
Hugh was sitting at the breakfast bar drinking a cup of coffee and reading the paper. “Good morning,” he said. “I wasn’t sure if you were big on breakfast, so I had them send up an assortment of food—fruit, cereal, muffins, that sort of thing. If you’d like something hot like eggs or pancakes, we can have them sent up, too.”
He wasn’t asking her to leave.
He was offering her breakfast like everything was completely normal.
Nervously tucking her hair behind her ear, she straightened in her spot. “Listen… Hugh, about last night…”
He waved her off. “Today is a new day,” he said with a sincere smile. “Okay?”
There were so many things Aubrey wanted to say, but she took the lifeline he extended, returning his smile. “Okay.” She walked over to where the breakfast tray was. Her practical side told her to have some of the fresh fruit, but the other side urged her to have one of the giant muffins.
“There’s banana nut, blueberry, and chocolate chip,” Hugh said as he watched her.
“As much as I would love the chocolate chip one, I don’t think it’s quite right for breakfast,” Aubrey said, sighing as she picked up the plate of fruit. Before she knew it, Hugh was beside her, taking the plate from her hands. “What are you doing?”
He leaned in and spoke to her in an exaggerated whisper. “You’re technically on vacation. It’s okay to have chocolate for breakfast. Besides, I won’t tell.”
She looked at him and couldn’t help but giggle. “It just feels so wrong.”
Now it was Hugh’s turn to chuckle. “It’s okay. Live a little.” Without a word, Hugh put the muffin on a plate, handed it to Aubrey, and took her by the shoulders, directing her to the breakfast bar. “Sit. Eat.”
And she did. It was quite possibly the best muffin—or breakfast—she’d ever eaten. It felt completely decadent, and it wasn’t until she was halfway through it that she realized Hugh was staring at her. Swallowing the last bite, she looked at him. “What?”
His face was resting in his hand and he was smiling—he seemed to do that a lot. At least, he always seemed to be smiling at her.
“It’s good to see you enjoying a meal.”
Aubrey looked at him quizzically. “What are you talking about? I always enjoy my meals.”
Hugh shook his head. “I know I can’t speak for how you normally eat, but since you’ve been here, you’ve been very reserved while you ate. This muffin? It was a completely different experience.”
She wanted to be a little bit offended by his observation, but couldn’t. “If you can believe it, that’s the first time I’ve ever eaten baked goods for breakfast. It was never allowed.”
Hugh’s shocked expression was almost comical. “How is that possible? What about bagels?”
Aubrey shook her head.
“Donuts?”
“Definitely not.”
“Toast?”
She laughed. “That’s not a baked good.”
“Technically, it is. Bread is baked, therefore toast is a baked good.”
Aubrey rolled her eyes. “Okay, then to be clear, I’ve never eaten the kind of baked goods one would find in an actual bakery for breakfast.”
“That borders on child abuse.”

New York Times and USA Today Bestseller/contemporary romance writer Samantha Chase released her debut novel, Jordan’s Return, in November 2011. Although she waited until she was in her 40’s to publish for the first time, writing has been a lifelong passion. Her motivation to take that step was her students: teaching creative writing to elementary age students all the way up through high school and encouraging those students to follow their writing dreams gave Samantha the confidence to take that step as well.
When she’s not working on a new story, she spends her time reading contemporary romances, playing way too many games of Scrabble or Solitaire on Facebook and spending time with her husband of 25 years and their two sons in North Carolina.

Feb 25, 2016 | 2016, Blog, Chris Bohjalian, February 2016

The Guest Room by Chris Bohjalian has romance, international world issues, relationship doubts, blackmail, and so much more! I’m not sure how he does it but Chris managed to pack it all into 336 pages and once you start you won’t be able to put your book or e-reader down!
This story weaves human trafficking and sex slavery, a topic that is spoken about rarely or quite frankly, often enough, into a story where the characters themselves never imagined it either!
Just thinking about human trafficking and sex slavery is scary, and reading about the brutal and sometimes deadly situations for those trapped and unable to escape, leaves you running to keep those you love close to you at all times.
Human trafficking and sex slavery is a world wide concern.
Recently I’ve read countless posts from friends in the ‘burbs
regarding Social Media accounts and the trappings kids have been lured into. What we can do to protect unsuspecting children from disappearing forever?
As a society we are driven by social media and the it’s impossible to know which texts, posts and tweets published are fabricated or real. If you’re looking for a book that is thought provoking and one that will move you, then download or purchase a copy now. From the very fist page, this book delivers a compelling story that will alter the way you look at the world. It will change you.
Nothing is more universal than a Bachelor Party and the wild
shenanigans that are usually associated with it. Richard Chapman agrees to host one for his engaged brother before he ties the knot. Richard is a happily married man and he leaves the sordid details to his brother’s friends while reluctantly offering up his suburban Westchester, New York home for the night. It’s just a few guys, what could go wrong? Little does he know what’s about to happen and the unthinkable scenario that will play out.
Alexandra was promised a better life in Russia. What unfolds leaves her powerless and unable to trust. It will take all of her strength to survive this one night. Will she be able to trust anyone?
As the book moves from chapter to chapter it alternates between different characters and their points of view. The change is seamless and easy to follow. Chris has done an amazing job of bringing to life
characters that leap off the page. The reader is drawn into a world of sex slaves, the Russian mob, debauchery and secrets.
Within this heart clenching story there are twists in every chapter as desperation, revenge, love and fear will drive each of these characters to do unspeakable things to achieve their happy ending.
Will the ending they have be what they hoped for? Or, the harsh
reality that life is unpredictable, real life is doesn’t mimic reality TV shows and marriages require trust and work to survive.
Do not miss this must read! I received an ARC from the publisher for a fair and honest review. When you finish I recommend another book from Chris’ backlist – The Double Bind. I recommend reading The Great Gatsby first if you haven’t already. Trust me 😉 The Double Bind is one of my favorites and I hope that it makes it onto the big screen someday.

- What is your MUST read book and why?
Oh, I could offer you a must-read shelf — but not a book. Among my favorite novels — the ones that I’ve read multiple times?
The Joyous Season by Patrick Dennis — Imagine Holden Caulfield with less angst and a better sense of humor, and you have the
howlingly funny narrator of this book. The book chronicles the near-
dissolution of one wealthy Manhattan family in the early 1960s, and what it takes to keep it intact. Nearly every page is a scream,
especially read today, because every moment feels so fabulously retro.
The Forty Days of Musa Dagh by Franz Werfel — an epic and
masterful novel of the Armenian Genocide, and based on the Armenians’ heroic stand atop the mountain on the Mediterranean Sea.
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald — Individual sentences give me a whopper of an inferiority complex, but I love every one.
The Cider House Rules by John Irving — I savor Irving’s books
because his characters are so gloriously eccentric and idiosyncratic, and this sweeping story is filled with people I cherished.
Room by Emma Donahue — a surprising, ingenuous, and authentic voice. And the story itself? Page after page of the most moving and wrenching. . .dread.
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee — There is obviously so much to savor in this book and so many ways to examine it, especially
knowing what we know now of the first draft. Among the elements that I cherish is what a beautiful father-daughter love story it is.
The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje — I love novels that teach me something, and in this book I learned a bit about Africa, archeology, and Egypt in the years immediately before the Second World War.
Sophie’s Choice by William Styron — Perhaps the most sad and wrenching novel I’ve ever read.
2. What is one place that I should see if I visit your hometown?
The Lincoln General Store — and their peppermint brownies. Or their chocolate chip scones. Or their salted caramel bars. Every bite is worth every calorie.
3. Castles or Beaches?
Beaches — with a book.
4. One thing readers would be surprised to know about you.
I begin my writing day by watching movie trailers.
5. Hard Rock or Classical? Favorite Band or Artist?
Hard rock when I am lifting at the gym. But I like both. Favorites vary. Might be 10,000 Maniacs one day, System of a Down the next. My iPod also has a lot of Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and the Beatles.
6. If you had an all expenses paid trip anywhere in the world for research, where would you go?
Back to the Syrian border. I have been there twice in the last two years.
7. What is your guilty pleasure?
Sugar Free Red Bull.
8. What are you afraid of?
Plane crashes.
9. Tats or No Tats? If tats, how many and what did you choose for your first one?
No tats.
10. Organized or Free Floating?
Organized.
11. Binge watcher or weekly viewer?
Both.
12. What’s your favorite TV show and why?
Mad Men because it channels me back to my childhood. Breaking Bad because it is breathtakingly rich with dread.
13. If you could pick a book you’ve read and make it into a movie, which book would it be (besides yours 🙂 )?
Right now? City on Fire. But that might change.
14. What’s your favorite movie of all time and why?
Impossible to choose one. This moment it might be Birdman. Tomorrow it might be The Right Stuff.
15. Would you rather see a movie in the theatre or at home on DVD and why?
Depends on the movie. I just saw The Revenant on Imax – utterly breathtaking.
16. Do you love to cook or go out to eat?
Both.

Excerpt #1
My darling sons,
When you each came into the world, I marveled at the miracle that created you. I held you in my arms and knew I would cherish you until the breath left my body.
Now I must bid farewell to all three of you at once.
The Almighty has indeed challenged me this day.
I know you go on a great adventure and do so with eagerness and enthusiasm. The Highlands offer less opportunity to you of late. I know this and mourn the circumstances of your leaving even as I know you will do honor to the MacIain name.
When someone asks me about my sons, I’ll speak proudly of you. My eldest son, I’ll say, remained in Scotland, a few days’ journey away. But one of my sons traveled to England to make peace with the conqueror, while the other set sail for America.
You will have children of your own, each of them carrying the MacIain blood and name. Tell them about our history, how we dreamed of an empire. Tell them about the place from which we came, a corner of Scotland known for its men of greatness and nobility.
Mention your mother, if you will, who bravely relinquished her sons to the future.
The Almighty has not given us the power of foresight, but I cannot help but think years from now, your children and your children’s children will be proud MacIains, as formidable as their ancestors
Love sometimes means sacrifice, and I feel that truly on this day. I sacrifice you to honor, to your heritage, and to a future only you can create. Go with God, my darling sons. May your dreams be realized and may He always protect you.

Chapter 1
Glasgow, Scotland
May, 1863
Rose thanked the driver as she exited the carriage and made her way down the path to the door. She didn’t know what she expected, but the three-story structure with its curved front surprised her. The bay windows, one on each side of the house, were curved as well. She had the thought that it was a friendly place, that the windows were almost like eyes. The two columns on either side of the front steps created an open mouth, almost as if the house were saying: Who are you? A stranger? Welcome anyway.
What if he refused to see her? What if he sent her away?
That couldn’t happen. She couldn’t allow it to happen.
She’d come so far.
Scotland surprised her, almost as much as its people. Everyone, from the porter to her fellow travelers on the train, had been a delight, genial and exceedingly helpful. While it was true they were curious, almost intrusively so, she didn’t mind repeating that, yes, she was an American. Yes, the war was a terrible thing. Thankfully, most of the discussions of her country ended there. She didn’t have to explain where she came from, what she truly thought about the war, and why she wore mourning. Because she was unaccompanied, no doubt most assumed she was a widow.
Assumptions were wonderful things. They kept her from lying.
Rose had expected a country filled with unique vistas: tall, craggy mountains and heather bedecked glens. She saw those and more, heart-stopping bridges that arched over gorges and rivers crashing over rocks to settle in placid pools. Sections of Scotland were green and verdant. Other places were brown, gray, and black.
When they arrived in Glasgow, her opinion of Scotland underwent a transformation.
Here was a place as bustling as New York. Cranes and spires filled the horizon. The sound of hammering and shouting obscured the call of the seabirds overhead. Docks and ships, long buildings and bustling people, wagons and carriages, all gave the appearance of frenetic activity.
She had no idea Glasgow was so large, so hilly, or so crowded.
After carefully consulting the letter in her reticule, she gave the hired driver the address to the MacIain house.
How odd that after all these weeks, all she felt was an incredible urge to sleep.
The voyage from Nassau to England had been relatively swift, and a great deal less stressful than running the blockade from Charleston outward to the Bahamas.
The train from London had been a marvel of speed and efficiency. Had she been on a different errand, she would’ve enjoyed herself immensely. As it was, each day sounded like a gong in the back of her mind, a deep-throated noise to alert her to how long she’d been gone.
Time was not on her side.

Allie McGrath believes in her family distillery business but wants to change a few things. Experiment? Take a risk? Why would Allie risk everything to branch out on her own?
In addition to her job, the notion of letting things go doesn’t exist. Especially when it involves her childhood crush. Justin Morgan was her brothers best friend who never recognized just how deep her feelings were.
Justin survived a few tours in Afghanistan but isn’t exactly prepared to “handle” Allie. Riddled with guilt and promises made to his best friend, will he give in or shield her from what could be a messy and complicated encounter? When an injury forces them together it leaves time to explore and act on those feelings. Will Justin retreat when he discovers just how hot things get?
Torn between family expectations and dreams these two have a lot to discuss. Discover Kentucky, bourbon, love and family in this sexy book from Teri. I fell in love immediately with her characters, the dream and the idea that sometimes love is better when aged a few years. Sarah and her husband of what he calls “many long, long years” live on the mid-Atlantic coast with their six young children, all of whom are perfectly adorable when they’re asleep. She never dreamed of becoming an author, but as a homeschooling mom, she often jokes she writes fiction because if she wants anyone to listen to her, she has to make them up. As it turns out, her characters aren’t much better than the kids, but nevertheless, you’ll find her writing sexy contemporary romance for Entangled Publishing until they throw her out. **********
Seducing Seven (What Happens in Vegas) by MK Meredith has just the right amount of comedy, drama, romance and sizzle that I would expect from a Las Vegas contemporary romance story.
It’s Friday and a quick trip Vegas is in order. A little excitement from the lights and sounds of those famous casinos is the perfect way to start the weekend. The attention to the little details is magical and draws you in. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself wanting to book a trip to Vegas soon 😉.
Seven Michaels is in Las Vegas for a Romance convention for work and has somehow found herself in an uncomfortable predicament. Desperate for a fast escape Seven uses her available resources, will he play along?
Blake Turner is in Vegas for a business meeting and has no time for romance. Can Seven convince this non-believer that romance books have merit? Blake isn’t convinced and makes a crazy bet with Seven that involves seduction, it is Vegas after all. What will it take for him to understand why readers are believers, and that they are a must for everyone?
Seven believes in her work, otherwise her books wouldn’t connect with her readers and she’d be out of a job. Can she convince Blake that romance is real? Will he discover that perhaps her rules aren’t so silly?
A book and series centered around romance writers, a convention and fans is brilliant! MK has taken secret crushes, convictions, handsome strangers and romance, mixed it with the thrill of sin city. Perhaps there is more to their instant chemistry .
When Seven and Blake first meet, their encounter has one of the best one-liners I’ve read in a long time. I was hooked and didn’t put the book down until the very last page. Fantastic writing, attention to detail and characters that will leave you wanting more long after the last page make this a perfect way to start the weekend.
I’ve read a few of the What Happens in Vegas books and I’m absolutely hooked. This was the first story I’ve read by MK Meredith and I’m a forever fan.
This 2 1/2 pepper spicy latte read may offend some readers and has mature content for those 18+.
