The third fabulous book in The Brethren of the Coast series is The Most Unlikely Lady by Barbara Devlin. Unlikely Lady is about an adventurous woman who captures the attention of a second son. Will her Admiral father tolerate the attention considering his status? Sabrina Douglas is not an ordinary woman. We first met her in book two during a meeting with Admiral and some of the Knights of The Brethren. It was during this scene that I knew she would wind up in her own story- and I’m so glad she did! I love reading stories where simple trinkets and extravagant flowers are not enticing enough to woo and capture the heroine’s heart. For Sabrina, the way to her heart is through a fishing pole, a long ride on horseback or even a simple bouquet of daisies. Perhaps then and only then, could a suitor have a chance at earning a second encounter that might lead to capturing her heart.
Everett Markham is desperate to possess Sabrina but she’s resistant to accept his proposal. He’s not sure if it’s because he’s the second son with no title. He has no chance for rising to great success in the ton. While Sabrina is enchanted with Everett Markham she also finds out that there is a burning attraction between them each and every time they are near each other. Fearful that he doesn’t love her she is conflicted and unsure, he hasn’t expressed his feelings. Will she be able to marry someone that loves her in addition to lusting after her? Still unschooled in the ways of love or lust Sabrina resists his advances but doesn’t completely push him away. Unfortunately during a chance encounter alone, they let their guard down and are caught in a compromising position. To prevent a challenge by her father they are forced to marry.
After they have recited their vows they receive news that Everett, the second son, is now The Earl of Woverton due to his brother’s untimely demise. The presence of his parents confirms that Lord Markham doesn’t seem to care about his new title and is distraught as he’s told that he can’t marry a lady of Sabrina’s station. This changes everything now, or does it? Will he end his marriage to Sabrina or follow his heart? More importantly will they consummate their marriage or leave room for an annulment?
Sabrina is not used to biting her tongue but quickly realizes her new place in society as Everett’s wife, and that’s when everything changes. What will Everett do to get back the feisty woman he married? Will he finally be able to admit how he feels, out loud? Will Sabrina realize the error of her actions and fight for what she has?
Each book in this series is more sinfully delicious than the next and so engaging that if you are just discovering The Brethren you will squeal with delight knowing there are Five books!!!!! Yes, Five books to devour and savor during these cold fall days! So, put a few logs on the fire, get a toasty drink and get comfy on that chaise! Discover one of my favorite new authors and some really naughty and creative Knights!
While I receive many ARC’s to review, this series I have purchased and I must say – it’s a great story for a great price! Again, Barbara Devlin is amazing and I look forward to reading each book in the Brethren Series (remember…there are five already, dear readers! Yay!!)
BIO:
Bestselling author Barbara Devlin was born a storyteller. A Texan, through and through, Barbara hasn’t been without a book in her possession since she was in kindergarten. She wrote her first short story, a really cheesy murder-mystery, in high school, but it was a Christmas gift, a lovely little diary with a bronze lock, given to her in the fifth grade that truly inspired her love of writing.
After completing part of her undergraduate studies at the University of London, where she developed a love of all things British, Barbara returned home and began a career in banking. But the late 80s weren’t too promising for the financial industry, and every bank that hired Barbara soon folded. So she searched for a stable occupation, and the local police department offered the answer to her prayers.
Initially, Barbara wasn’t too sure about her new career in law enforcement, but she soon came to love being a police officer. And then one uncharacteristically cold and icy day in December 1998, Barbara was struck by a car and pinned against a guardrail while working an accident on a major highway. Permanently disabled, she retired from the police department and devoted her time and energy to physical therapy.
Once Barbara got back on her feet, she focused on a new career in academia. She earned an MA in English and continued a course of study for a Doctorate in Literature and Rhetoric. She happily considered herself an exceedingly eccentric English professor, until success in Indie publishing lured her into writing, full-time, featuring her fictional knighthood, the Brethren of the Coast
