Welcome to The Extra Shot where you’ll find an EXCLUSIVE excerpt from The Barista’s Beloved by Rebecca Norinne and Jamaila Brinkley.
Ben was skating on thin ice with his manager. With a local wine festival taking place that weekend, The Hollow Bean was busier than usual and he was struggling to keep up. He’d been warned once already that the next time he f#%ked up an order, it was coming out of his pay.
Unfortunately, all these tourists kept ordering drinks that sounded more like dessert than coffee. What the hell was a warm and toasty graham cracker latte anyhow? According to Corey, the harried barista toiling away next to him, it was an abomination. And now he had to make three of them for a group of blonde twenty-somethings dressed identically in skinny jeans, tight white t-shirts, and puffy black vests who were waiting impatiently for their orders.
“Hey.” A tall guy with a loud, booming voice stepped up to the counter and waved his cup in front of Ben’s face. “This isn’t what I ordered.”
Under the watchful eye of his manager, Ben took the to-go cup from the man’s hands and checked the cardboard sleeve to find out what it was supposed to have been. It turned out the problem wasn’t with the drink itself; rather, that the guy had grabbed the wrong order.
“Unless your name is Nancy, I’d think not,” Ben replied, taking note of what it was so he could make another one for the actual Nancy before she complained too.
“What did you say to me?”
Ben gritted his teeth. He’d only worked at The Hollow Bean for a couple of months, but during that time he’d seen the worst of humanity. So many people treated service staff like complete garbage. He just hoped he hadn’t been one of them back in the day. “Just let me get these coffees to them—” he lifted his chin to indicate the three blondes “—and I’ll remake yours.”
The guy harrumphed, but didn’t add anything else. Probably because his gaze was glued to the girls, his eyes raking over the tallest one with undisguised greed. It was a look Ben recognized well—it was the one he wore whenever he was in the same room as Maeve and he thought she wasn’t looking.
Having successfully handed over three graham cracker whatevers, he set about remaking the guy’s drink, trying not to eavesdrop on the phone conversation he was having.
“I should be able to wrap this up in a week or two,” he was saying. “The company that currently occupies the building is a nonprofit so they won’t be able to fight Hartwell for long. Mmm-hmm. Yeah, that’s right. Kids Matter, Teach Younger, Mentor Forever … something like that. I know it definitely has to do with kids. Exactly. We should expect some push back from the community because of that, but I figure once Hartwell ponies up a few grand for a new playground or something, that should shut the yokels up. You know how small towns are.”
Ben abandoned the milk he’d been foaming and Corey slammed down the bottle of hazelnut syrup he’d just picked up. Ben looked around, noting that the entire coffee shop had come to a silent standstill—something Coffee Douche was completely oblivious to.
“Look, that’s not my problem. My job is to get in, get the papers signed, and get the fuck out. Why should I care about some kids I’ll never meet? You know how these bleeding heart liberals are. They want to help everyone, and meanwhile, they’re not actually helping anyone. The condos will do a lot more for this ridiculous town than some old abandoned school, you know?”
With a fury he’d never felt before, Ben untied his apron strings and pulled the fabric over his head, dropping it into the bin of used linens. He had no idea what had come over him, but hearing this guy talk about this mentoring organization so dismissively made him want to do something proactive to stop it.
He felt a hand on his elbow, slowing him down. “What are you doing?” Corey hissed. “You can’t knock the f#%ker out. You’ll definitely get fired then.”
Ben lifted the wooden counter that separated employees from customers and stepped through. Dropping it back down, he turned to Corey. “Oh, I’m going to fight him, all right. Just not how you expect.”
They thought this takeover was going to be a walk in the park? Well, the joke was on this Hartwell character because he was going to have to go through him first. River Hill was just a town full of yokels, huh? They didn’t think the nonprofit would be able to put up a fight because they couldn’t afford a fancy lawyer? He might not work for a high profile firm anymore, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t go toe to toe with the best of ‘em. Hell, a few short months ago he had been the best. It was time to brush off the rust and prove he still had what it took to win cases. This asshole and the developers he worked for were going down.

Jun 25, 2019 | Blog, Jamaila Brinkley, June 2019, Rebecca Norinne
The Barista’s Beloved is the fourth book in The River Hill series by Rebecca Norinne and Jamaila Brinkley. Once again these authors have crafted a story that reads as if it’s written by one author. This duo writes fluidly and it’s almost impossible to distinguish where one either writer begins. I have tried to figure out which author wrote specific chapters, and I was unable to decipher. Ladies, well done.
For those familiar with the River Hill series, this book focuses on Maeve Brennan and Ben Worthington, a local barista. If you’re new to the series, not a worry. This book stands on its own if you haven’t read the first three books in the series.
Maeve Brennan is looking for something different when it comes to dating and the men she meets. Up for the challenge, she’s thinking outside the box, but if she gives in to her deepest desire, she might ruin hopes of happy-ever-after.
Focused on her work in the community and balancing between family expectation and business, there’s no time to fall for the handsome barista. One night should do it to take care of that “something” she is missing. Can she prove to everyone that she’s better off alone, or is there room to open up her heart and let someone love her deeply.
Ben Worthington is in River Hill because sometimes life throws you curves. Unsure of his next move and what his true calling is, he needs to overcome his previous job. Despite it all, he’s destined for greatness. When Maeve catches his eye he will discover what he’s meant to do and how hard he will have to fight. If he can move mountains he will discover it’s all worth it. Hopefully he can figure out his heart too before he loses everything.
If you’re looking for something fun this week whip up your favorite coffee house drink, grab a comfy blanket and head out to River Hill. This adventure has hot chemistry, character arcs that are fully developed and a story that pulls you in leaving you wanting more from these must read authors.
I received this ARC from the authors for a fair and honest review. Caution, this scorchin book may lead to unexpected need to turn on the A/C.

Jun 22, 2018 | Blog, Blog Tour, Jamaila Brinkley, June 2018, Rebecca Norinne
The Distiller’s Darling by Rebecca Norinne and Jamaila Brinkley is refreshing and delicious. There is nothing sweeter than a collaboration that reads with such fluidity and grace as this does. I tried to figure out which author wrote specific chapters and I was unable to decipher. Ladies, well done.
For those familiar with the River Hill series, this book focuses on Naomi Klein and her crew of friends. New to the series, no problem. I love that this book can stand on its own for those who have not read The Vintner’s Vixen as well as satisfy returning readers with a continuation of beloved characters that brought them back for another bookcation.
Naomi Klein is strong, witty, and knows what she wants. Unafraid to speak her mind despite the potential for alienating herself from her family and friends she’s tired of her meddling mother and town gossip. Naomi is oozing talent and will stop at nothing to achieve her dream, but does she really want a life of one-night stands and no commitments? Is it possible that she can have an established career without giving up someone special? When she meets a sexy Irish whiskey connoisseur he will leave her panties twisted and her heart ripe for the taking. Will she change her mind regarding marriage and discover it’s possible to have it all?
Iain Brennan wants to to be defined by his work and not constricted to his families expectations or old world ways. Working with his twin sister on a secret project he travels across the pond to make his move. There is only one thing preventing him from achieving his goals, a sexy artist who will become the canvas in this fabulous love story. Will his family be receptive? Will he change his mind on relationships and family?
If you’re looking for something fun this weekend try an adventure with hot chemistry, a solid story built around families, friendships, and a town where everyone knows you. Now is the perfect time to visit River Hill, I hear there’s a great B & B with a few rooms available :)!
I received this ARC from Inkslinger PR and the authors for a fair and honest review. For a book that has love scenes behind the bedroom door this is still a scorching hot read!
Scorchin – Caution, may lead to unexpected need to turn on the A/C.

EXCERPT:
“Thank you for doing this,” Iain said, the pad of his index finger tracing over the design Naomi had created for Whitman’s Revival. “To be honest, I wasn’t sure I’d hear from you again. You kind of ghosted me.”
He glanced up in time to catch her looking away guiltily. “Yeah, about that—”
“I’m not asking you to explain yourself. I get it. We had some fun, and now it’s time to move on.”
Naomi’s eyes came back around, the guilt replaced with what Iain thought looked a whole lot like contemplation. “Funny you should mention that.”
“Funny how?”
“I was thinking,” she said, her finger swirling a pattern on the table that separated them. “You’re leaving in two months, and it would be a shame if we didn’t spend that time … hanging out.” Her eyes bored into his, as if daring him to misunderstand.
His lips quirked up into a smirk. “Why, Miss Klein, are you asking me to fuck you senseless until I board a plane back to Ireland?”
She tossed him a wicked smile full of promise. “You have to admit; we’re pretty damn good at it.”
“The best,” he agreed.
He felt his chest sawing in and out as his breathing became deeper and more labored. Iain couldn’t remember the last time he’d felt such heady anticipation. Oh, wait, yes, he could. It was that night in San Francisco when he and Naomi had practically run from that dive bar to his hotel. He’d been so ready for her that he’d ripped her dress off before the door to his room had locked behind them.
“So, what do you say, Brennan? You want to spend the next sixty days seeing how many orgasms we can give each other?”
That was all the invitation Iain needed. Abruptly, he stood, his chair scraping over the black-and-white-checked linoleum and then crashing to the floor. He stalked around the fifties-style diner table and fisted his hands in Naomi’s hair. He bent at the waist and let his lips hover scant centimeters from her parted ones. He could feel the warmth of her breath mingling with his own. “What do you say we get started on that now?”
She licked her lips. “Yes, let’s.”

“What brings you here?”
Her mother examined her surroundings. “Do you have a place to sit down?”
Naomi sighed. “Come on in. The living room is this way.” The dining room had been converted to her office, but she’d furnished the cozy living room with a comfortable couch and a chair or two. She mostly used the space for watching ridiculous movies when she was feeling burnt out. Although she and Iain had done a few other things in there several days ago. Probably not something she should be thinking about as she watched her mother sit carefully down in the exact spot Iain had—never mind.
“So? You’re sitting. In my house. Which you’ve never visited before, let alone showed up unannounced to. Why are you here, Mom?”
“Oh, it isn’t just me, dear.” Her mother smiled at her beatifically. “Your father’s here, too. He’s just taking a little nap. You know how travel tires him.”
“You live less than two hours from here.”
“Yes, of course. It was certainly a drive. There were many interesting fields and farms.” Her mother’s tone conveyed her opinion about such things, and it wasn’t positive. “I left him at the cozy B&B we booked. So convenient that it had availability.”
Oh, no. “You’re staying? At a B&B?”
“Oh, yes. Even more charming than your little place here. I understand they’ve undergone some renovations recently.”
“Mom, are you staying at the Oakwell Inn?”
“Well of course, darling.”
“But that’s Noah’s—”
“Yes, I promised his mother a full report, of course.” Her own mother sniffed. “Angelica is a charming girl, although she seems quite busy.”
That explained why nobody had thought to warn Naomi about this ambush. Angelica was due to leave to film another segment of her popular show in a day or two. Possibly even tomorrow—Naomi wasn’t sure of the exact schedule. But Noah and Angelica would have been far too busy cooing over each other to even register this particular emergency. They probably thought Naomi had invited her parents to come.
“Why are you and Dad here? You never leave the city.”
“Darling, you didn’t answer your phone. I assumed you were dead. We came to identify your body.”
“You booked a B&B to identify my corpse?”
“Well, we certainly weren’t going to stay at a Holiday Inn.”
Naomi closed her eyes and sought patience. “You knew I wasn’t dead. What’s going on?”
Her mother leaned toward her. “It’s an intervention, Naomi.”
Naomi felt her jaw drop. “A what?”
“An intervention. Jacob and Tanya are on their way, too. We felt the whole family should be here.”
