Close to the Fire (Westen Series, Book 3) by Suzanne Ferrell is a suspense filled romance that will leave you guessing right up till the last page. We all know that firemen are sexy and this book is no exception. Fire Chief Deacon “Deke” Reynolds is a force to be reckoned with. He had it all until a devastating fire ten years ago took the life of his best friend who also happened to be his girlfriend’s brother. Elizabeth “Libby” Wilson lost more than her brother that night as her boyfriend severed all ties with her. Without any answers she was left to deal with a horrible situation alone. Deke pushed her away without looking back and they both suffered. If only they could forgive themselves and each other.
While things are looking up for Deke, he’s still got problems. But, since that horrible night Deke runs from his emotions. Now he’s reached a cliff and must make a choice. If he continues to move forward the way he’s done for the past ten years he will fall off the cliff and never allow anyone to get close. What will it take for him to stop running away and open up? With the support of his friends and the town, he’s still protecting against fires while working at the local High School coaching Football.
Libby still can’t face her ex-boyfriend without old feelings resurfacing. The dance they do to deny their feelings needs a little push. With the help of Lola, the owner of the local town diner she lets him have it. It’s time for Deke to be honest with himself and Libby. Will that push be enough to help him get past that horrific night? Will the pain and nightmares finally end?
Unfortunately, the mysterious fires popping up all over town after the arrival of a teenager at a juvenile shelter for troubled kids aren’t helping Deke deal with his issues. Will he have the courage to find the answers to that fateful night? The past comes full circle as both Deke and Libby face their fears and answer everyone’s question, will they or won’t they?
This sexy, on-the-edge of my seat book is a must read. From start to finish I loved this book! Usually I read a series from the beginning. This time I jumped in at Book 3 because this copy was given to me for an honest review. I enjoyed it so much that I snatched up a kindle copy of Book 1 for free and purchased Book 2. I need to find out what happened that led up to this book! Well done Suzanne Ferrell you have a new follower and fan!
BIO:
Suzanne discovered romance novels in her aunt’s hidden stash one summer as a teenager. From that moment on she knew two things: she loved romance stories and someday she’d be writing her own. Her love for romances has only grown over the years. It took her a number of years and a secondary career as a nurse to finally start writing her own stories.
Currently there are two main series she’s actively writing in: The Westen Series, a contemporary small town series based in a fictional Ohio town where “things aren’t always what they seem”, and features Close To Home, Close To The Edge and Close To The Fire. The second series is the Romantic Suspense books KIDNAPPED, HUNTED, SEIZED and VANISHED, featuring the Edgars family as they fight for justice, even if it means stepping slightly outside the rulebook.
KIDNAPPED and HUNTED were both Golden Heart finalist, and SEIZED, book #3 in the Edgars Family Novels, was a finalist in the novella category of the OKRWA’s National Reader’s Choice Awards contest.
Suzanne’s sexy stories, whether they be her on the edge of your seat romantic suspense or the small town romantic suspense stories they’ll keep you thinking about her characters long after their Happy Ever After is achieved.

In Loving Lt. Douglas by Barbara Devlin, we discover the makings of the Admiral we know and love in The Brethren. When Lt. Mark Douglas meets Amanda Gasciogne-Lake he’s attracted to her, until he discovers her true identity. Oh, she doesn’t lie to him rather leaves out a few important details that find him wondering what he will do.
Intent on pursuing something more with Amanda he’s ready to commit but then finds himself on the receiving end of orders to leave immediately, and unable to explain to Amanda what her father has done. For Mark to declare his heart forever to Amanda he must first fulfill the demands her Admiral father has given him. Unfortunately those unfair restrictions are preventing him from expressing his desires and declaration of love. What will she do when she finds out her father is the reason for her heartache?
If you are like me and have devoured all the books in The Brethren series then this is a must read and you won’t be disappointed. While it is just a brief encounter with the Admiral it is still super steamy and has all the funny banter that we love in the other books! I’ve been celebrating those delicious bad boys all week and this is a fabulous way for me to end such a great event! This super sexy story is a wonderful early present to fans of The Brethren as we get to see the early years of the Naughty Knights. Dear readers this is a perfect beginning for a deliciously wicked Anthology and the story of the magical and ancient brooch.
1939
In Behind Enemy Lines by Jeanne Adams we are transported back the beginning of WWII, 1939 into the turmoil of France and Germany. We meet Grace Corvedale as she tries to escape France with both the mystical heirloom brooch she’s inherited and her life. Trained as a spy by the best agents in England, she’s been working as a vintner wine broker, allowing her to come and go while sending vital reconnaissance back to England.
Unfortunately information has leaked to the wrong hands about the origins of her family brooch and the power it holds. When Grace finds herself staring danger in the face, she will stop at nothing to escape the Nazis with her life and brooch intact. Leave it to her father to send in back-up to rescue her from a fate worse than anything one can imagine. Perhaps her rescuer, American Lt. Robert “Dix” Dixon, who is “unofficially” working for the British Embassy will turn out to be more than just a super sexy spy who appears as easily as he disappears.
Do you believe in magic? Do you believe that a predetermined someone is destined to be your soul mate? When Grace finally has a dream of her destined husband she denies to anyone who asks that she’s had the “vision.” Surely these dreams and that husband aren’t what her ancestors had in mind! Fearful that her life is about to alter course in a way that could be fatal for her family, she needs to prove to herself that having faith in the legend of the brooch is paramount. However, it’s up to Grace to discover that destiny or not, she can still write her own story.
Another captivating tale that I only hope leads to a new series! This spell-binding WWII adventure is filled with super sexy spy stuff and will keep you in suspense until the very last page.
2014
In The Brit, the Brooch, and the Blizzard by Caitlenn T. Ainnsley we meet Olivia DuBois who is dealing with a family illness, a man who claims to only have eyes for her but really doesn’t, and a penchant for finding herself in embarrassing situations at the most inappropriate time!
When her so-called boyfriend professes his desire to go on to Hawaii without her even though she’s facing the most difficult moment in her life she can’t seem to wonder if he’s truly the one for her. In a fleeting moment her Grandmother passes down the family brooch in hopes that her granddaughter will truly find happiness and her beloved. Will this be the catalyst for her to change course and discover a life she’s meant to live? A run-in with a Brit in a most unexpected place leads her on a journey of the heart, mind and soul. Travel along to discover what happens when you mix magic with a raging blizzard and a sexy man with an accent. This one is sure to leave your toes curling too! After reading Caitlenn T. Ainnsley’s novella I am hoping that she too will expand and give us more! What a great way to end an amazing idea and concept for a novella – one that must certainly be revisited ladies and soon!

Loving Lieutenant Douglas by Barbara Devlin
It is the Age of Sail and First Lieutenant Mark Douglas of the Royal Navy has set his sights on a fiery society miss with a spirit to match his own. What happens when Lady Amanda Gasciogne-Lake’s father rejects the sailor’s suit, and an ancient brooch with mystical power portends doom?
BIO:
Bestselling author Barbara Devlin was born a storyteller. A Texan, through and through, Barbara hasn’t been without a book in her possession since she was in kindergarten. She wrote her first short story, a really cheesy murder-mystery, in high school, but it was a Christmas gift, a lovely little diary with a bronze lock, given to her in the fifth grade that truly inspired her love of writing.
After completing part of her undergraduate studies at the University of London, where she developed a love of all things British, Barbara returned home and began a career in banking. But the late 80s weren’t too promising for the financial industry, and every bank that hired Barbara soon folded. So she searched for a stable occupation, and the local police department offered the answer to her prayers.
Initially, Barbara wasn’t too sure about her new career in law enforcement, but she soon came to love being a police officer. And then one uncharacteristically cold and icy day in December 1998, Barbara was struck by a car and pinned against a guardrail while working an accident on a major highway. Permanently disabled, she retired from the police department and devoted her time and energy to physical therapy.
Once Barbara got back on her feet, she focused on a new career in academia. She earned an MA in English and continued a course of study for a Doctorate in Literature and Rhetoric. She happily considered herself an exceedingly eccentric English professor, until success in Indie publishing lured her into writing, full-time, featuring her fictional knighthood, the Brethren of the Coast.

Behind Enemy Lines by Jeanne Adams
In WWII Europe, Lady Grace Corvedale flees Paris as the Germans approach, but Hitler has learned her brooch may have mystical powers, and he vows to possess it—at any cost. Lt. Robert “Dix” Dixon, an unofficial attache to the British Embassy, is dispatched to rescue her but can he outwit The Fuhrer to Save Grace?
BIO:
Although Jeanne Adams likes calling North Carolina home, she lives in DC, where The Tentacle Affaire is set, and often jogs on the C&O towpath with her dogs. Her favorite holiday is Halloween. She starts planning the annual yard decor on November 1. Alas, in this case however, the
“Adams Family” – one husband, two sons and three dogs – is all bark and no bite.
On another spooky note, Jeanne used to work in the funeral and cemetery business, and knows a thing or two about getting rid of the body….bwhahahah! (She even teaches classes about it to other writers!)
Jeanne has written Romantic Suspense for Kensington/Zebra Publishing since 2007. Her first Urban Fantasy, The Tentacle Affaire, came out September 2014. Two holiday novellas are now available as well, the novella in JEWEL IN TIME, and a short Thanksgiving themed Romantic Suspense novella, Deadly Delivery.

The Brit, the Brooch, and the Blizzard by Caitlenn T. Ainnsley
When a series of tragic events leaves Olivia DuBois stranded in Boston during a blizzard, a handsome Brit rides to her rescue, and the California girl falls hard. Emerson Glascoigne-Lake manifests the quintessential knight in shining armor, but does a family heirloom fortell true love or destroy it?

Caitlenn T. Ainnsley
Chick Lit Author
Caitlenn writes edgy, sexy chick lit stories about fabulous women, hot men and the often crazy situations they encounter on the road to love.
She won her first creative writing contest in the sixth grade and has always found pleasure weaving stories.
A big fan of Harlequin’s Intrigue series, her first novel was a romantic suspense. Its rejection was a blessing because it challenged Caitlenn to explore other genres. When she scribbled a single scene to enter in a Romance Writer’s of America editor’s critique and all three editors said they wanted more from her, she knew she’d found her voice in chick lit.
The Brit, The Brooch, and The Blizzard is her debut novella.
Caitlenn is a pen name for Leah Grant. Leah is a Business, Life and Spiritual Coach having a diverse set of skills as a Master Certified Coach, a Certified NLP Practitioner, a Certified Emotional Intelligence Practitioner and an Ordained Minister. Leah Grant speaks, teaches and is a published best-selling non-fiction author.
Leah is also known as Lotus. As Lotus, she sings Sanskrit chants and has released a CD: Ecstatic Meditation – One available at www.ecstaticmeditation.com
When she’s not traveling, which she does very frequently, Caitlenn lives in Las Vegas.

In Captain of Her Heart, Book 5 of The Brethren of the Coast by Barbara Devlin we are once again at the mercy of the Naughty Knights and the woman who must claim them. Lady Alexandra “Alex” Seymour and Captain Jason Collingwood parted with harsh words after a love scheme went terribly wrong in Book 4. Poor Alex hasn’t heard from her Captain and is fearful she may have lost him forever. Determined to win his heart and right the wrongs that occurred, she sets out to surprise him at his home. Upon arrival, she discovers a cozy little home and lone maid which is not what she’s accustomed to or expected.
Once again she’s spinning tales of as she tells the housemaid she’s Captain Collingwood’s “sister” as she assessed where she should unload her belongings in the one-room house. Unwilling to surrender or disclose the truth she’s determined to show Jason that there is more to her than just the physical beauty that he seems to adore. Therefore she sets out to learn whatever tasks are necessary in managing a home and that includes cleaning, cooking and mending.
Unfortunately, when Alex took off no one knew where she was headed as the tales which she spun far from the truth as to her known whereabouts. The only reason she set off to find Jason was to confess her true feelings but somehow Alex winds up in a wicked and intoxicating reunion that will change her forever. How will he respond when he discovers her housekeeping skills and that she’s not the refined Lady he presumed her to be? Will he give in to his animalistic feelings and show her how he truly needs to be pleasured? It’s all about trust between them and unfortunately there are a few hiccups towards a happily ever after for these two!
While he assumes her intentions are without strings as he’s not ready or willing to commit to anything more, this sets off another chain of comical and sultry events. The ladies of The Brethren have warned Alex what will happen to her if she allows any man to become too familiar with her without a permanent commitment to her body and soul. Poor Alex has become entangled in a game where the rules keep changing and winning the game this time may actually cost her everything.
What happens next will change their lives forever as Jason discovers his new orders and sets course to sail. Has Jason finally found someone who will match him in every way? Will Alex realize that the best way to win at anything is to be honest and real without embellishing her given assets or convincing others to do the same? This book is super sexy hot! It will sizzle in your fingers beyond the previous books in this series! Be sure you are comfortable when you start this story as you won’t be getting off the couch till you finish!
Furthermore, from November 14-18, Enter the Brethren (Book 1) AND My Lady, the Spy (Book 2) are FREE right now on Amazon. If you haven’t already done so, download these two stories and discover the world of The Brethren and hit the high seas!

Nov 13, 2014 | Blog, Coffee With, November 2014
Rae: Good Morning Barb! First, if we were meeting at a coffee shop I’d be drinking a Latte 🙂 What would you order?
Barbara: My drink of choice is always the same. I love a venti soy hazelnut latte. My husband says he needs a chair and a whip to get anywhere near me before I’ve had my morning java.
Rae: Thanks so much for taking the time to answer a few questions. I absolutely love The Brethren Series!!! I must ask, how many delicious books do you anticipate for this yummy series? Super excited that book 5 is almost here!
Barbara: Thank you, so much, for hosting my naughty Nautionnier Knights and I. To answer your question, the BOC series will have 10 books, total. However, since you’ve read the books, you’ve come to know the 5 original knights from the prologues. In 2015, I’m kicking off a new series, by reader demand. Brethren Origins will tell the stories of the fabulous virgin 5: Arucard, Demetrius, Aristide, Morgan, and Geoffrey. 2015 will also see the debut of The Lucky One, which is Dalton Randolph’s story, and I know so many of my readers will be thrilled to hear that my hotheaded Blake Elliott will find his mate, in Love With An Improper Stranger, when he least expects it—and he’s not happy about it.
8 Tantalizing Tidbits!
1. A Must read book and why?
The 19th Century American Gothic Hope Leslie, by Catharine Maria Sedgwick, is my must read book. On the surface, it is an unapologetic examination of 17th Century New England and the dispossession and extermination of American Indians. But at its core is a beautifully composed historical romance between the Indian Oneco and his “white bird” Faith, and their subsequent inter-racial marriage, which was quite controversial, given the book was first published in 1827. I love rebellious reads.
2. What is one place that I should see if I visit your hometown?
In light of the local investment in downtown Fort Worth, TX, I’d tell anyone visiting my hometown to spend an afternoon or evening in Sundance Square. There’s so much life and vitality to the area, and Fort Worthers are friendly folks. It’s full of great shops, restaurants, and bars, and the atmosphere is relaxed. It’s the perfect place to unwind during the hectic pace that often accompanies travel.
3. Castles or Beaches?
As much as I love exploring archaeological sites, I have to pick beaches. My husband and I were married on South Maluaka Beach on Maui. There’s nothing like the sand between your toes, the smell of the ocean, and the sound of waves crashing ashore. Reminds me how insignificant we are, in the grand scheme of life.
4. What is one thing readers would be surprised to know about you?
I think most people would be surprised to know that I’m a disabled, retired police officer. Given the state of banking in the late 80s, I had to adapt to the changing job market, and it just so happened my department was hiring when the last bank I worked at folded. Is there anything more stressful than unemployment?
5. When you are traveling do you prefer to road trip if or fly it?
See my answer to what I’m afraid of, for an additional explanation. When it comes to travel, I love road trips. Lately, hubby and I have flown to either coast, rented a car, and driven vast expanses of our great nation. A few years back, we flew to Seattle, rented a car, and drove the Pacific Coast highway. Just last month, we flew to Boston and drove New England. We started in Maine, then cruised to New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and then back to Boston. It was amazing. I love car trips, because you can take your time, go at your own pace, and often mingle with locals. We also make a concerted attempt to patronize locally owned businesses.
6. What are you afraid of?
It might surprise readers to know that I harbor a deep-seated fear of flying. Seriously, just driving to the airport gives me sweaty palms. It stems from a very rough landing at Washington National Airport, when I was a child, and I still refuse to fly into that airport. And my fear was reinforced and intensified, after a missed landing at La Guardia, during a vicious storm, on a surprise wedding anniversary trip. I felt so bad for my husband, because it took hours for me to stop puking, and he had all sorts of romantic endeavors planned.
7. What’s your favorite TV show and why?
Well it was Boardwalk Empire, because I adore the baddie gangsters, but it ended. A close second is Game of Thrones, because it’s pure fantasy. I love the various character arcs, and Martin excels at
character development. Now if he would just stop killing off all my favorites. Conversely, I avoid reality shows like the plague, because I’m quite familiar with life, in all its intricacies.
8. Would you rather see a movie in the theatre or at home on DVD and why?
The short answer is both. Now, let me expound. There is nothing that compares to watching an epic drama, a sweeping romance, a sci-fi or horror, or an action-adventure film in the movie theatre, with their big screens and surround-sound systems contributing another layer to the mise-en-scène. In the mega-movie-plexes, the viewer is literally enshrouded in the visual and audial experience. I’ve seen Gone With The Wind in the theatre, and it’s breathtaking. Think of the Marvel masterpieces. Can you imagine the Avengers limited to the flat screen in your living room? That said, I own copies of my favorite movies on DVD, because so many features contain subtle nuances that require numerous viewings to identify. One of my favorite movies is Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. It’s an amazing work of art, and every time I watch it, I discover something new that I’d missed in previous viewings.
Rae: THANK YOU SO MUCH for your time. It was a pleasure “chatting” with you, and I look forward to posting about Captain of Her Heart (Book 5 of The Brethren Series) tomorrow!
In addition your readers will be thrilled to hear that from Nov. 14-18, Enter the Brethren and My Lady, the Spy will be FREE for download. What a super way to celebrate the release of your latest book!
