BIO:

Bestselling author Barbara Devlin was born a storyteller. A Texan, through and through, Barbara hasn’t been without a book in her possession since she was in kindergarten. She wrote her first short story, a really cheesy murder-mystery, in high school, but it was a Christmas gift, a lovely little diary with a bronze lock, given to her in the fifth grade that truly inspired her love of writing.

After completing part of her undergraduate studies at the University of London, where she developed a love of all things British, Barbara returned home and began a career in banking. But the late 80s weren’t too promising for the financial industry, and every bank that hired Barbara soon folded. So she searched for a stable occupation, and the local police department offered the answer to her prayers.

Initially, Barbara wasn’t too sure about her new career in law enforcement, but she soon came to love being a police officer. And then one uncharacteristically cold and icy day in December 1998, Barbara was struck by a car and pinned against a guardrail while working an accident on a major highway. Permanently disabled, she retired from the police department and devoted her time and energy to physical therapy.

Once Barbara got back on her feet, she focused on a new career in academia. She earned an MA in English and continued a course of study for a Doctorate in Literature and Rhetoric. She happily considered herself an exceedingly eccentric English professor, until success in Indie publishing lured her into writing, full-time, featuring her fictional knighthood, the Brethren of the Coast.

The third fabulous book in The Brethren of the Coast series is The Most Unlikely Lady by Barbara Devlin. Unlikely Lady is about an adventurous woman who captures the attention of a second son. Will her Admiral father tolerate the attention considering his status? Sabrina Douglas is not an ordinary woman. We first met her in book two during a meeting with Admiral and some of the Knights of The Brethren. It was during this scene that I knew she would wind up in her own story- and I’m so glad she did! I love reading stories where simple trinkets and extravagant flowers are not enticing enough to woo and capture the heroine’s heart. For Sabrina, the way to her heart is through a fishing pole, a long ride on horseback or even a simple bouquet of daisies. Perhaps then and only then, could a suitor have a chance at earning a second encounter that might lead to capturing her heart.

Everett Markham is desperate to possess Sabrina but she’s resistant to accept his proposal. He’s not sure if it’s because he’s the second son with no title. He has no chance for rising to great success in the ton. While Sabrina is enchanted with Everett Markham she also finds out that there is a burning attraction between them each and every time they are near each other.  Fearful that he doesn’t love her she is conflicted and unsure, he hasn’t expressed his feelings. Will she be able to marry someone that loves her in addition to lusting after her?  Still unschooled in the ways of love or lust Sabrina resists his advances but doesn’t completely push him away. Unfortunately during a chance encounter alone, they let their guard down and are caught in a compromising position. To prevent a challenge by her father they are forced to marry.

After they have recited their vows they receive news that Everett, the second son, is now The Earl of Woverton due to his brother’s untimely demise. The presence of his parents confirms that Lord Markham doesn’t seem to care about his new title and is distraught as he’s told that he can’t marry a lady of Sabrina’s station.  This changes everything now, or does it? Will he end his marriage to Sabrina or follow his heart? More importantly will they consummate their marriage or leave room for an annulment?

Sabrina is not used to biting her tongue but quickly realizes her new place in society as Everett’s wife, and that’s when everything changes. What will Everett do to get back the feisty woman he married? Will he finally be able to admit how he feels, out loud? Will Sabrina realize the error of her actions and fight for what she has?

My Lady, The Spy (The Brethren Book 2) by Barbara Devlin is a cloak and dagger, sexy spy book that has snared me into this series once again! Lady Rebecca Wentworth, L’araignee, The Spider, is one of England’s most elusive and sought after spies. No one knows her true identity and only after her companion, Colin, is murdered is her identity in jeopardy. Dirk Randolph, a Knight of the Brethren is now charged with watching over her to help lure out her predator.  Can the spider find out who’s after her or will she fall into a trap herself?

At this point, Rebecca is positive she can’t trust anyone and will stop at nothing to avenge Colin’s death and unmask the traitor.  The Knights decide that she must marry Dirk to ensure her safety and keep her identity a secret.  However, Rebecca can take care of herself and is not used to being a Lady in waiting, just shopping and gossiping with the ton.  But, for this mission to succeed, Rebecca and Dirk must convince everyone that they are in love and that their upcoming nuptials are real. As they plan a wedding, the Knights and the Crown work together to find out who betrayed her and killed Colin.

During Rebecca’s re-introduction into society there are many men who recognize her but they see her as a Courtesan and nothing more.  Will Dirk and Rebecca be able to complete their mission without sacrificing their hearts? Can Dirk ignore his feelings and get to the bottom of the threats against her? The chemistry between them is hot! The Spider has set her trap but will soon find herself ensnared in her own web. Because no one can figure out who the traitor is, everyone is a potential villain and all are in danger.

There is nothing more sexy than a lusty Captain whose only mission is to protect a lady in distress. Lucky for Rebecca she’s not a Lady and distress doesn’t faze her. In fact, her time abroad has added a few lusty new weapons in her armory.  Will Dirk be able to overlook what she had to do to protect herself and her past missions?

If you are looking for a sexy Knight with a creative and lustful imagination, this book has it. If you are in need of being swept away on a wild adventure, this book has it.  If you want to be on the edge of your seat until the very last page, this book will do it.

I love how this heroine knows exactly what she wants and is not afraid to speak her mind or do what she feels she must for the “sake of the mission.”  This series is a must own and for the price, it can’t be beat!

While I receive many ARC’s to review, this series I have purchased and I must say – it’s a great story for a great price! I’m suddenly feeling that I need to go on a cruise with my own Captain and explore the high seas! Once again, Barbara Devlin is amazing and I look forward to reading each book in the Brethren Series (there are five already, dear readers! Yay!!)

Caroline Elliott has run away on a ship to escape London and winds up meeting Captain Trevor Marshall (Lord Lockwood) who mistakes her for something else.  Trevor sets out to take what he thinks is fair game (someone else’s light-o-love) then, when he realizes Caroline isn’t a courtesan, he finds himself in a precarious situation.  Never one to shy away from responsibility he intends to make right by what he’s done. Unfortunately Caroline isn’t quite convinced he’s sincere.

Along with way, because of what happened, Lord Trevor Lockwood must marry but discovers his feelings are more than obligatory. What will it take for him to be honest with himself or Caroline? An unexpected meeting with members of the Brethren of the Coast reveals a secret society that until now was merely a dockside rumor that Trevor had discounted. Entwined in The Brethren’s web of secrecy he’s discovered that he might actually be tangled in his own web with Caroline. Sworn to never fall in love he’s realizing she’s challenging him to make his own rules along the way and the battle begins.
