Book Review & Excerpt: Drive Me Crazy by Samantha Chase

DriveMeCrazy ebook5x8 188x300 Book Review & Excerpt: Drive Me Crazy by Samantha ChaseDrive Me Crazy (Road Tripping) by Samantha Chase is fun and full of adventure. Two unlikely strangers. One car. A trip they will never forget.

Samantha Chase writes sweet and sexy romance and this series is a bit sexier than some of her more traditionally published books. I loved it and enjoyed the intimacy of the characters. To those who really enjoy her behind the doors romance, this is a tad more and flows perfectly. If you don’t mind a little spice, this isn’t over the top and it adds to the story pace flow and character development.

Throughout this story the character arcs are real, layered, and the story is full of that signature Chase trademark that makes her books must read romance.

From the color popping cover you are immediately drawn in, you can feel the connection. Something amazing is about to happen. I’m a huge fan of road trips and a romance series that is set in a car, driving cross country, count me in!

Grace knows what she wants, too bad her soon to be husband doesn’t fully appreciate her.ย  When she discovers the truth she will take a leap of faith and trust her gut. What transpires is a journey of self discovery, acceptance and a willingness to find happiness.DMC FlatLay 2 Live 300x300 Book Review & Excerpt: Drive Me Crazy by Samantha Chase

Finn is convinced he can teach his brother a thing or two. Little does he know he’s about to be played. When he sorts things out he will make a plan that now includes a woman escaping and needs a ride.

Sometimes we need to step outside our comfort zone to discover the things we need and the things we can work on to make our lives better. The chemistry between Grace and Finn is electric, their journey is full of twists and turns, and the adventure they embark has all the things. I can’t wait to read the next installment.

Excerpt

ย

โ€œWhy do I have to shop for you? Iโ€™ve got my own shopping to do. And we agreedโ€“just minutes ago, mind youโ€“how we were responsible for ourselves. Iโ€™m not shopping for you, Grace.โ€

Her shoulders sagged. โ€œOh, come on! Seriously? Look at me, Finn! Havenโ€™t I been humiliated enough today? Now you expect me to go inside and shop looking like this?โ€

โ€œTrust me, Grace, no one is going to judge you in there. If anything, Iโ€™m pretty sure you wouldnโ€™t even be in the top ten of weird dressers in there.โ€ He paused and grinned. โ€œI believe thereโ€™s an entire website dedicated to the crazy way people dress to shop at Walmart. Youโ€™ll be fine.โ€

She wanted to argue because the thought of facing any more people while wearing her wedding dress was beyond unappealing, but she knew the quickest way to get out of the damn dress was to go inside for herself and shop.

โ€œFine,โ€ she said with a dramatic sigh. โ€œLetโ€™s get this over with.โ€

โ€œThirty minutes,โ€ he stated firmly as they climbed from the truck. โ€œLetโ€™s give ourselves thirty minutes to get in and done so we can get on the road.โ€

Grace nodded because it all sounded good to her. The sooner they got what they needed and moved on, the happier sheโ€™d be.

Once they stepped inside the store and grabbed their own shopping carts, Grace was amazed at how the majority of the people simply glanced at her and kept on walking.

Thank God.

Finn reminded her of the time and walked away. Part of her had hoped theyโ€™d shop together because it would make her look a little less pathetic, butโ€ฆwith no other choice, she embraced the spectacle that she was and began shopping.

The basic toiletries were firstโ€“shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, and a razor. Her makeup was in her satchel, so she was good there. Thinking quick, she grabbed a brush and a couple of bands for her hair. Next, she walked over to the womenโ€™s department and grabbed a couple of pairs of yoga pants, a couple of pairs of jeans, and a handful of t-shirts. Next came tennis shoes, socks, and underwear. The cart was filling up, but she still had a few more things to grab. Two nightshirts and a robe were thrown in before she walked over to the travel section and found a suitcase and travel pillow.

Standing back, she examined everything she had picked and knew it would have to do. If she forgot anything, no doubt she and Finn could stop along the way. Deciding she could go and check out, Grace had gone all of five steps when her stomach started to grumble. In all the wedding preparation hoopla earlier, she hadnโ€™t eaten. The plan had been to enjoy a big dinner after the ceremony, and with everything she had to do to get ready, she had skipped lunch.

โ€œSnacks,โ€ she muttered. โ€œBetter grab some snacks.โ€ What followed could best be described as a hungry child left unsupervised in a candy store. The top of her shopping cart was covered in every variety of candy bar topped with several bags of chips, some snack cakes, and a six-pack of soda.ย  Smiling with satisfaction, she said, โ€œThat should do it.โ€

She spotted Finn on one of the checkout lines and walked over and moved in behind him. He took one glance at her cart and then at her.

โ€œIs this your passive-aggressive way of saying youโ€™re hungry?โ€ he asked, one dark brow arched.

โ€œRight now, I should be cutting my wedding cake,โ€ she replied sarcastically. โ€œAfter enjoying a three-course meal that included chateaubriand, grilled scallops, baby asparagus, and a Caesar salad.โ€

โ€œOh.โ€

โ€œAndโ€ฆI skipped lunch!โ€ She crossed her arms over her chest and gave him a โ€˜take that!โ€™ look.

He stepped closer and examined the contents of her cart and Grace looked around him toward his.

It was way more organized.

And contained a lot less stuff.

โ€œAre you sure you got everything?โ€ she asked. โ€œIt doesnโ€™t look like you have enough.โ€

Shrugging, Finn began unloading his purchases onto the belt. Grace watched and counted three pairs of jeans, a package of t-shirts, a package of socks, a package of boxers, some kit that contained all the male-essential toiletries, a brush, and a duffle bag.

Clearly, Finn was an efficient shopper.

He shrugged. โ€œDonโ€™t need much. This isnโ€™t a vacation; itโ€™s just so I donโ€™t smell while weโ€™re driving.โ€

Umโ€ฆokay, she thought. Most men she knew would be a little more eloquent in describing this sort of thing but whatever. Jared would have insisted they go to a mall to shop and thenโ€ฆnope. She was not going to go there. For starters, Jared would never do a road trip, and second, she didnโ€™t want to even think about him right now.

The bastard.

Finn bagged up his stuff and paid while Grace loaded her stuff on the belt. The cashier looked at her and then at Finn and smiled broadly. โ€œHoneymoon off to a rough start?โ€ she asked. โ€œWhat happened? The airline lose your luggage?โ€

Grace could feel her cheeks heating and didnโ€™t know how to respond because, really, did this cashier need to be on the receiving end of all the sarcasm, anger, and snark that was just dying to be released?

Before she could do or say anything, Finn leaned in and laughed. โ€œThey sure did! Itโ€™s been a wild day, and weโ€™re anxious just to have some necessities until the whole mess gets cleared up, arenโ€™t we, honey?โ€

She looked at him like he was crazy, but when she realized what he was doing, she began to laugh along with him. โ€œYou know it, sweetie pie!โ€ She turned to the cashier. โ€œWe know this is just a little bump in the road, and it will give us something to laugh about and tell our grandkids one day!โ€

Soon the cashier was laughing with them. โ€œYou two are adorable!โ€ Then she started ringing up Graceโ€™s things. โ€œAlthough, just a bit of marriage advice for youโ€ฆdonโ€™t pay for things separately! You are one now! Embrace it!โ€

Grace looked nervously at Finn, who looked away, and she knew he was snickering. She just knew it! Keeping her smile in place, she said, โ€œThis will be our last separate purchase, right, baby?โ€

Grinning, Finn nodded. โ€œOf course, snookums. Now, why donโ€™t we let this lovely lady finish ringing you up so you can get changed and we can get going?โ€

Just the thought of getting out of the gown was enough to spur Grace into action. After she paid, she pulled a pair of yoga pants, a t-shirt, socks, and sneakers from the bags and walked over to the ladiesโ€™ room. Finn took the rest of the purchases and told her heโ€™d meet her at the truck, and that was fine with her.

It didnโ€™t take long, however, for her to realize that this wasnโ€™t going to be a quick-change. It had taken the help of Tilly to get into her gown, and no matter how hard she tried, it was impossible to get out of it alone. She was practically sewn into it. She stepped out of the stall and caught her reflection in the mirror and wanted to cry. There was a time when sheโ€™d thought this was her dream gown. The salesgirl at the dress shop had said it was a fairytale fantasy kind of gown and had sold her with her whimsical description. The fitted bodice was adorned with exquisiteย lace appliques and accented with beads and rhinestones. The sheer off-the-shoulder neckline was exactly what she had wanted, and months of working out at the gym meant she could really show off her arms.

But the floor-length skirt had sealed the deal for her. The oversized skirt was embellished with delicate handmade flowers. The outer layer was made of tulle, the interlayer was made of silk net, and the lining was made of satin.ย  The first time she had tried it on, she felt like a princess. And now look at her. She was muddy, the dress was ruined, her makeup was a smeared mess, and she was standing in a Walmart bathroom. Muttering a curse, Grace grabbed her new clothes and stormed out of the ladiesโ€™ room and out to the parking lot where she found Finn eating one of her candy bars.

โ€œHey!โ€ she snapped. โ€œWhat the hell, Finn? Those are mine!โ€

With a shrug, he laughed and looked her up and down. โ€œProblem?โ€

โ€œYes, thereโ€™s a problem! Why wouldnโ€™t there be a problem?โ€ she asked sarcastically. โ€œI canโ€™t get out of this stupid gown. I canโ€™t reach the damn buttons.โ€ Turning her back to him, she motioned to them. โ€œCan youโ€ฆcan you please just help me?โ€

He popped the last bite of candy into his mouth before reaching out and Grace could feel his knuckles gently caress her skin. Tingles of awareness ran down her spine, and she cursed herself for responding at all at a time like this.

โ€œThese buttons are ridiculously small,โ€ he murmured as he leaned in close, and now she could feel his warm breath along her spine too.

โ€œIโ€™m in hell,โ€ she muttered.

โ€œExcuse me?โ€

โ€œWhat? Ohโ€ฆuh, nothing. Just commenting on how rotten my luckโ€™s been today.โ€

She felt his hands down near her waist and quickly stepped aside. โ€œI think that should do it. Thanks.โ€ Glancing toward the massive store, Grace considered her options. The rain had stopped, and she was just so damn tired. โ€œHey, can you justโ€ฆyou knowโ€ฆturn around?โ€

Finn looked at her like she was crazy. โ€œYouโ€™re not going to get changed right here, are you?โ€

โ€œCโ€™mon, Finn. I donโ€™t want to hike back inside!โ€ she whined. โ€œMy feet are killing me, this dress is wide open now in the back andโ€ฆplease? Just stand in front of me. Iโ€™ll open the truck door to shield me on one side and you can shield me on the other. Iโ€™ll be fast, I swear!โ€

โ€œGrace, you canโ€™t be seriousโ€ฆโ€

And that was it.

Sheโ€™d hit her breaking point. Stepping in close, she poked him in the chest. โ€œDo you think that maybeโ€“just maybeโ€“something can go my way tonight? Isnโ€™t it bad enough that Iโ€™m standing here in a Walmart parking lot on what was supposed to be my wedding night? Iโ€™m tired, Iโ€™m hungry, and all I want is to take this damn dress off! You ate one of my candy bars, so you owe me! Now, are you going to help me or not? Because Iโ€™ve got to tell you, Finn, Iโ€™m not opposed to stripping down right here and just getting it over with!โ€

By the time she was done, she was breathless and shaking with rage, and Finn must have realized it because he turned around and gave her some room. โ€œWait,โ€ he said. Stepping around her, he reached into the space behind the seats and pulled out all the shopping bags. Loading his hands with all of them, he stepped in front of her and turned his back to her. โ€œExtra blockage.โ€

As crazy as it sounded, it was the nicest thing he could have done for her.

โ€œThank you,โ€ she said softly, and then quickly stripped off her dress and pulled on her new comfy clothes.

Dirty Dozen 300x300 Coffee With Debut Contemporary Romance Author Kristen Morgen

1. What is your must read book and why?

As a romance author, itโ€™s SO clichรฉ, but my must read book is The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. Iโ€™ve read it several times and it was probably the biggest influence for my own career as a romance author. Sparks is one of my favorite authors and when my writing is compared to his in reviews for my book, itโ€™s SUCH a huge compliment!!

2. If I visit your hometown, where am I going and whatโ€™s the best place to grab a bite?

My hometown is Madison, WI and all of my books are set there. I donโ€™t live there anymore, but I have such fond memories of so many restaurants, including my all-time favorite, Porta Bella. Itโ€™s the best Italian restaurant (on the planet!) and the atmosphere is like none other! As far where to go, there is no better place than State Street! Itโ€™s the cityโ€™s renowned pedestrian mall, running eight blocks from the State Capitol to the University of Wisconsinโ€™s campus. There are so many incredible shops, restaurants, museums and theaters!

3. What is one thing readers would be surprised to know about you?

Iโ€™m educated and trained as a licensed architect, and I own my architectural firm. Iโ€™m not happy unless Iโ€™m creating something, whether itโ€™s floor plans for a new house or writing a new love story, as long as Iโ€™m exercising the creative side of my brain in some way.

4. What is your guilty pleasure?

I have several actually. As Iโ€™ve gotten older, Iโ€™ve learned to embrace guilty pleasures! They include coffee, wine, cheesecake and binge-watching TV series on Netflix or Amazon. Oh, and spa days! I love being pampered from time to time too!

5. What are you afraid of?

I get teased about this all the time when I admit it, butโ€ฆ.. moths and butterflies! They just freak me the hell out! They have the CREEPIEST little bodies and they fly so erratically that theyโ€™ve become a low-key phobia of mine! (Go ahead and laugh!)

6. Tats or No Tats? If tats, how many and what did you choose for your first one?

No tats on this girl! And I donโ€™t really have a reason why. Iโ€™ve just never found anything that Iโ€™ve wanted to put on my body forever. But I do have a great line when people ask me why I donโ€™t have any tats โ€“ โ€œWhy would you EVER want to put bumper stickers on a Ferrari?โ€

7. Binge watcher or weekly viewer? Which show(s)?

Mainly a binge watcher due to my busy schedule and never knowing when Iโ€™ll have time to keep up. And I have a wide range of favorites โ€“ Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Mr. Robot, NCIS, Blacklist, Dexter, Narcos, The Americans, Homeland, Stranger Things, Dead to Me, The Good Place, The Office (and youโ€™d never think I was a romance author based o that list!).

8. If you could pick a book you’ve read and make it into a movie, which book would it be (besides yours ๐Ÿ™‚ )?

There was a great thriller called โ€œThe Marriage Lieโ€ by Kimberly Belle that I read a few years ago for a local book club and we all agreed that it would make an awesome movie. It was one of those books that kept you guessing at every turn and I can imagine it would translate very well to the big screen!

9. What is the one thing you can’t live without?

This is something Iโ€™ve actually recently learned about myself. Back in September, I did a 30 day cleanse โ€“ no sugars, no carbs, no dairy, no alcohol andโ€ฆ. no coffee!! I was all set with everything but the coffee. It turns out that coffee owns me. And Iโ€™m ok with that!

10. Whatโ€™s the one career gives you the shudders?

Dentist. Hands down. Going into peopleโ€™s mouths and giving them discomfort or pain? No thank you!! I honestly donโ€™t know how they do it!

11. If I opened up your handbag/bag/briefcase, what item would I be shocked to see?

My purse is pretty boring, but my briefcase is a little more unusual. I always carry a 25โ€™ tape measure and a laser measurer because Iโ€™m always measuring houses for my job.

12. What app on your phone/ipad gets the most use?

Itโ€™s a tie between Facebook and Instagram.

Rae: Thank you for hanging out today.

Our new normal – ideas on how to survive.

Our new normal – ideas on how to survive.

Corona Article 300x300 Our new normal ideas on how to survive. As the first day of our new normal kicked in I have observed the following – empty shelves in the grocery stores, mass gatherings in parks, crowds a plenty and not much concern for contracting what many call “a mild flu.”

The closing of schools was done to protect the ENTIRE community, it takes the tribe to save the village. So, while we can’t send our kids to school, please don’t swap that out for large gatherings (restaurants, parks, movie theaters, the malls, etc.) We need to trust the doctors and experts, put partisan differences aside and have faith that this plan will work.

Many cities have already closed schools for SIX weeks. I shudder at the thought but if that means that I can see my friends and family who are in one of the hard-hit cities, I’m all for it! I hope our school changes from two to more!

Folks, I believe the ONLY way we can flatten the curve, ease our overcrowded emergency rooms, and keep those we love safe, is to follow the guidelines from the CDC. That includes using soap to wash our hands. Google which songs are perfect for the recommended 20 seconds to soap and scrub. Tell me, what’s your favorite tune you sing while creating all the bubbles, comment below.

I know its disappointing to not hug our parents, shake hands, kiss loved ones goodbye, attend prayer services, and even gather for weekly meals. Instead of looking at the things we are missing, perhaps we can spin this sudden change. Take control of the situation and use the time to focus on our health.

Self-care is often neglected and due to unfortunate circumstances we’ve been given a chance to put ourselves first. Now, before you send me hate mail I understand many of you must work, must interact with people and can’t stay inside your homes. But you CAN control how close you are, follow best hygiene practices and keep to minimal interactions with those in high-risk groups.

So…what do we do with our time at home? There are so many options and here are a few suggestions. Feel free to comment with how you are spending your extra time below!

1. Exercise and/or meditate. Every day give yourself time to go for a run outside, workout at home (on-line videos on YouTube are FREE, Beachbody On Demand for a nominal monthly fee, or even many cable networks have fitness channels) can ease the inconvenience of not going to the gym. If you’re not going to the gym call them and see if they will suspend your monthly membership. The stress relief will help ease your concerns (hopefully) and if not, it will offset the extra calories as you eat through the contents of your pantry ;).

2. Keep your routine. This is true for all ages, don’t change your routine because you are working at home, your kids are home, or you are no longer at work.

A block or time schedule can be helpful. Work with the people in your home to delegate rooms, equipment, tv/gaming systems, and even bathroom time if needed. So many memes floating around about what our days should look like and the reality of how our household will manage. Glad to see people haven’t lost their sense of humor.

Great resources for block schedule can be found on YouTube and Pinterest.

Set a meeting time with the family/members of your house and create a calendar. Close quarters means we are all in this together.

3.ย Meal Plan. Before panicking that you don’t have enough food to manage these next few weeks take inventory of what you have. This morning I woke up in a panic because I hadn’t bought a few items. Once I had a minute to think and calm down, I realized I had purchased something similar that would substitute just fine.

If you find you are running low or missing something you must have, contact a neighbor or friend and see what you have that you can swap or barter. Even consider sharing a delivery order and safely separating the contents for each other.

4. Educational on-line resources at Amazing Educational Resources for those with kids pre-school to 12th Grade. I am not paid to post these links and am not responsible for broken links or content. When in doubt … Pinterest always works!

Any board game will work if you each move the friend the appropriate number of spaces. Makes for a fun and unique way to stay connected.

7. Movie Night/ TV Shows.ย  There are on-line libraries or if you’re lucky to have cable, a 24-hour library at your fingertips. Now is the perfect time to re-visit an old favorite or discover a new one.

I’m ready to re-watch The West Wing on Netflix. My DVR is schedule for days and I scored a sweet deal a few weeks ago with the STARZ app so I can stay current with Season 5 of Outlander. If you’re looking for fun family shows … try The Masked Singer and start a pool with who is behind the mask.

9. Discover a new recipe or teach the kids how to cook. This is the perfect time to have kids help prepare, cook and clean. Make it a game show with two main ingredients and they have to discover what to make with items in your pantry.

10. Read. Read. Read. Check out the reviews on my blog for something sweet or spicy. Stalk, I mean follow your favorite , follow authors, browse Overdrive via your local library or favorite bookseller. Many have free reads this week:

11.ย Check on loved ones and friends often. Everyone will be impacted at some point. Let’s take care of our friends, family and neighbors. Be mindful, respectful and polite. Not all feel necessary to stay at a distance. That is a choice and while I will happily say hello to you at a distance of 6 feet. I still adore you and hope we can shorten the distance soon.

12. Organize and clean up. Cabinets a bit untidy, clothes need to be sorted, bagged for donations or put away? No more excuses.

13. Start that home project. Find an on-line retailer and order what you need. Can’t spend money? Watch a few episodes of Trading Spaces and get creative at home.

16. If you’re sick. Don’t rush to the ER. Call your Doctor and make a plan. We need to keep our health care professionals safe so that when we need them, they are healthy to take care of us.

โ€œWhy didnโ€™t you want me to know your name?โ€ Grayson finally asked, casting aside the socially acceptable tact that had been drilled into him since birth. โ€œDo we know each other?โ€

Nadiaโ€™s sharp but low intake of breath glanced off his ears, and he faced her again, openly scrutinizing her face for any telltale signs of deception. But she was good. Aside from that gasp, her expression remained shuddered. Either she had nothing to hide or she was damn good at lying.

He couldnโ€™t decide which one to believe.

โ€œNo,โ€ she whispered. โ€œWe donโ€™t know each other.โ€

Truth rang in her voice, and the vise squeezing his chest loosened a fraction of an inch.

โ€œAnd I guess, I didnโ€™t see the point of exchanging names. If not for this blackout or you being in this hallway instead of the ballroom, our paths wouldnโ€™t have crossed. And when the power is restored, weโ€™ll become strangers again. Getting to know each other will pass the time but itโ€™s not because we truly want to. Itโ€™s notโ€ฆhonest.โ€

Her explanation struck him like a punch. It echoed throughout his body, vibrating through skin and bone. Honest. What did he know about that?

In the world he moved in, deception was everywhereโ€”from the social niceties of โ€œItโ€™s so good to see youโ€ to the cagey plans to land a business deal. He wasnโ€™t used to her brand of frankness, and so he didnโ€™t give her platitudes. Her honesty deserved more than that.

โ€œYouโ€™re right,โ€ he said. โ€œAnd youโ€™re wrong.โ€ Deliberately, he straightened his legs until they sprawled out in front him, using that moment to force himself to give her the truth. โ€œIf not for me needing to get out of that ballroom and bumping into you here, we wouldnโ€™t have met. You would be outside, unprotected in the parking lot or on the road. And I would be trapped in the dark with people I wish I didnโ€™t know, most likely going out of my mind. So for that alone, Iโ€™m glad we did connect. Because Nadiaโ€ฆโ€ He surrendered to the need that had been riding him since looking down into her upturned face, and clasped a lock of her hair, twisting it around his finger. โ€œNadia, I would rather be out here with you, a complete stranger Iโ€™ve met by serendipity, then surrounded by the familiar strangers Iโ€™ve known for years in that ballroom.โ€

She stared at him, her pretty lips slightly parted, espresso eyes widened in surprise.

โ€œAnother thing youโ€™re correct and incorrect about. True, when the lights come back on and we leave here, we probably wonโ€™t see each other again. But in this moment, thereโ€™s nothing I want more than to discover more about Nadia with the gorgeous mouth, the unholy curves and the underwhelming fairy godmother.โ€

Maybe he shouldnโ€™t have pushed it with the comments about her mouth and body, but if they were being truthful, then he refused to hide how attractive he found her. Attractive, hell. Such an anemic description for his hunger to explore every inch of her and be able to write a road map later.

Her lashes fluttered before lowering, hiding her eyes. In her lap, her elegant fingers twisted. He released the strands of her hair and checked the impulse to tip her chin up and order her to look at him.

โ€œWhy did you need to escape the ballroom?โ€ she asked softly.

He didnโ€™t immediately reply, instead waiting until her gaze rose to meet his.

Only then did he whisper, โ€œTo find you.โ€

Author Photo 1 223x300 The Extra Shot: Blame it on the Billionaire by Naima Simone Excerpt & ReviewUSA Today Bestselling authorย Naimaย Simoneโ€™s love of romance was first stirred by Johanna Lindsey and Sandra Brown many years ago. Well not that many. She is only eighteenโ€ฆish. Though her first attempt at a romance novel starring Ralph Tresvant from New Edition never saw the light of day, her love of romance, reading and writing has endured. Published since 2009, she spends her daysโ€”and nightsโ€” writing sizzling romances with a touch of humor and snark.

She is wife to Superman, or his non-Kryptonian, less bullet proof equivalent, and mother to the most awesome kids ever. They all live in perfect, sometimes domestically-challenged bliss in the southern United States.
