Authors Dish for the Holidays – December 24, 2018
Welcome to Authors Dish about the holidays. Today in the cafe I’m serving hot drinks, warm treats, and lots of tasty ideas.
Today in the cafe are USA Today Bestselling Author Suzanne Ferrell, USA Today Bestselling Author Terry Spear, and Tarina Deaton who are sharing their favorite recipe and holiday tradition.
Rae: What’s your favorite winter holiday recipe?
Suzanne Ferrell: This cheeseball recipe I got from a co-worker back before I graduated Nursing School. I’ve made it every year since so 39 years and both my daughters have the recipe and make it for Christmas parties they are invited to. It takes 3 ingredients. One tub of Kaukauna cheese, 8 oz of cream cheese. Mix thoroughly, chill. Form into a ball and roll in chopped pecans. That’s it!
Tarina Deaton: Every year we have an argument whether this is a side dish or a dessert because it’s so decadent. It’s that perfect combination of sweet and tart:
Bake for 50-55 minutes
Rae: What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Suzanne Ferrell: Singing Christmas carols. I used to love going caroling and when my kids were teens we’d host a caroling party.
Terry Spear: Favorite holiday tradition is spending the time with family–having Christmas Eve dinner, watching a Christmas movie, and then in the morning, having cinnamon rolls, coffee or tea, and opening presents, taking pictures, watching another Christmas movie, having a special Christmas dinner.
Tarina Deaton: It’s probably decorating the tree. I’m one of those people that waits until after Thanksgiving so we spend Friday morning pulling everything out and decorating. For me it’s about the excitement my kids feel in anticipation of Christmas.
Rae: Thank you so much authors!
Comment below and tell us what your favorite recipe and traditions are. We’d love to know! Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas.

Suzanne Ferrell: USA Today Bestselling author Suzanne discovered romance novels in her aunt’s hidden stash one summer as a teenager. From that moment on she knew two things: she loved romance stories and someday she’d be writing her own. Her love for romances has only grown over the years. It took her a number of years and a secondary career as a nurse to finally start writing her own stories.
Currently there are two main series she’s actively writing in: The Westen Series, a contemporary small town series based in a fictional Ohio town where “things aren’t always what they seem”, and features Close To Home, Close To The Edge and Close To The Fire. The second series is the Romantic Suspense books KIDNAPPED, HUNTED, SEIZED and VANISHED, featuring the Edgars family as they fight for justice, even if it means stepping slightly outside the rulebook.
KIDNAPPED and HUNTED were both Golden Heart finalist, and SEIZED, book #3 in the Edgars Family Novels, was a finalist in the novella category of the OKRWA’s National Reader’s Choice Awards contest.
Suzanne’s sexy stories, whether they be her on the edge of your seat romantic suspense or the small town romantic suspense stories they’ll keep you thinking about her characters long after their Happy Ever After is achieved.

Tarina Deaton: Tarina has spent her entire life in and around the military – first as a dependent and then as an enlisted Air Force member.
In 2015, a friend challenged her to complete NaNoWriMo. She dusted off one of the many stories she’d started over the years, threw it in the trash, and started all over.
Her debut novel, Stitched Up Heart, released in September 2016. She draws heavily from her own military experience when crafting stories and characters.
Tarina is still active duty and a single mom of six-year-old twins. Her favorite hobby is sleep. She has delusions of retiring from the military and being a stay-at-home mom.
Terry Spear: Bestselling and award-winning author Terry Spear has written over sixty paranormal romance novels and four medieval Highland historical romances. Her first werewolf romance, Heart of the Wolf, was named a 2008 Publishers Weekly’s Best Book of the Year, and her subsequent titles have garnered high praise and hit the USA Today bestseller list. A retired officer of the U.S. Army Reserves, Terry lives in Spring, Texas, where she is working on her next wolf, jaguar, cougar, and bear shifter romances, continuing with her Highland medieval romances, and having fun with her young adult novels. When she’s not writing, she’s photographing everything that catches her eye, making teddy bears, and playing with her Havanese puppies and grand-baby.

All Wrapped Up
If you’re still searching for ways to wrap your holiday presents or gifts anytime of the year check out this quick list I put together to ease your stress. These suggestions are sure to keep things fun, festive, mysterious and exciting.
1. Brown craft paper or white paper leave endless wrapping options no matter the season. If you have young kiddos Ikea sells rolls of crafting paper that’s multi-purpose and affordable too!
2. Reusable gift bags are the gift that keeps on giving. Hop over to your favorite stores and they have beautiful ones this season. Add a few sheets of tissue paper, or wrap in a kitchen towel for added bonus.
3. Colored comics make a great option for young kids and added laughs when opening up their gift.
4. Printed boxes that are sold at craft stores make fun and reusable gifting ideas. Not only are they pretty to gift, the person you are giving it to will have a beautiful way to store items too!
5. Gift baskets stuffed with goodies if you’re gifting bath, food, or sundries.
6. Check out my Pinterest Wrapped Up board for endless ideas too!
7. Mason jars make great containers to stuff and organize last minute gifts too.

Have you read the Rawley Family Romances? Here’s a sweet Holiday “Deleted Scene” to whet your appetite…
Jeremy found Meg in their room, putting the finishing touches on a few gifts. She was nothing if not overzealous about gift wrapping. The three boxes were rectangular, and he imagined they must contain clothing of some sort. The paper was whimsical of the kind he knew his wife would choose for children, and there was a ribbon crisscrossed on each one with a bow in the center.
“I thought you were finished with the gifts,” he murmured, sneaking in behind her and pecking one of her rosy cheeks.
“Oh, Jeremy! You surprised me. Well, these are the Christmas Eve gifts for the boys, and at the last minute I decided to extend the tradition for Nichole… er, Michelle.”
He rubbed his hands on her arms as if warming her up, though he couldn’t imagine she would be cold in the room which had a roaring fire. His touches were ones of affection, and his wife sighed in contentment, offering him a smile across her shoulder.
“I didn’t remember you wrapping the Christmas Eve ones before.”
She bit her lip, then giggled nervously. “Well, I don’t, but… well, the truth is I just love watching little ones unwrap presents, and so I decided to wrap the baby’s, and if I wrapped hers, I should do the boys, too.” She paused and furrowed her brow. “Don’t you think?”
Jeremy didn’t dare laugh. His wonderful wife’s feelings were tender enough as it was, so he nodded seriously and gave her a little squeeze. “Yes, indeed.” She didn’t like all of the conflict going on in the house after the blow up between his sister Kay and his cousin Brennan.
Jeremy had been just as shocked as his sister when he was told the truth about Hope kidnapping baby Michelle. But for all of his shock, Kay had been furious, and the resulting argument was explosive to say the least.
For now, there was a silent truce between all concerned, but the tension was still heavy in the air, and that weighed on Meg. Her natural reaction was to do something to bring happiness and joy back into their midst.
“Oh, good. I was hoping this would be all right. We’ll let the children open them tonight after dinner then, okay?”
Meg didn’t wait for him to agree this time, just bundled up her boxes and hurried out of the room, humming some Christmas carol as she went.
He knew what the boxes would contain. Meg’s mother hadn’t been an attentive parent, but she had started a tradition that his wife decided to carry on with their children. There would be matching holiday pajamas for the boys and probably a holiday nightgown for Michelle. The little ones would go to sleep in their Christmas outfits, visions of sugar plums dancing in their heads. He could just about imagine them all the next morning, waking up with funny little bed heads and in green and red PJs.
His heart warmed, and a grin spread across his face. Even with the cloud of unsettled emotions going on in Arrington Manor, his wife found a way to shine through it all. Jeremy thought he would never stop marveling at the way his Meg could do tiny little things each day to make him fall in love with her all over again.
I hope you enjoyed that little “Return to Arrington Manor” Christmas scene.

When Olivia Hardin started having movie-like dreams in her teens, she had no choice but to begin putting them to paper. Before long, the writing bug had bitten her, and she knew she wanted to be a published author. Several rejections plus a little bit of life later, she was temporarily “cured” of the urge to write. That is, until she met a group of talented and fabulous writers who gave her the direction and encouragement she needed to get lost in the words again.
Olivia has attended three different universities over the years and toyed with majors in Computer Technology, English, History and Geology. Then one day she heard the term “road scholar,”’ and she knew that was what she wanted to be. Now she “studies” anything and everything just for the joy of learning. She’s also an insatiable crafter who only completes about 1 out of 5 projects, a jogger who hates to run, and she’s sometimes accused of being artistic.
A native Texas girl, Olivia lives in the beautiful Lone Star state with her husband, Danny and their puppy, Bonnie.
