Summary provided by Sourcebooks Casablanca for the Blog Tour:

He’s the terror of the ton…

The plan is simple:

1. Descend from the Highlands to face the aggravation of a London Season;

2. Foist his wild sister off on some gullible English lord;

3. Retreat before the ladies of the scandalized ton can get any ideas.

Determined to see his hellion of a sister wed, Highlander Alexander Waters is willing to face anything—even the English. He just didn’t expect his own rough manners to cause such a riot…or for a blooming English rose to catch his eye.

Gently bred Catherine Middlebrook must find a respectable man to marry or her family will be ruined. She won’t allow herself to be distracted by Highland barbarians…no matter how her body may thrill whenever Alex is near.

Catherine wasn’t part of the plan, but as their battle of wills escalates, Alex comes to realize this “proper” English girl is as wild as the Highlands themselves…and nothing will stop him from having her.

Exclusive Snippet “You need not trouble yourself… And you will never be close enough to me to take a liberty after this morning.” Alexander Waters smiled, and the light of challenge came into his dark eyes. Catherine cursed herself, for her grandmother had warned her about issuing challenges to a man. Men liked nothing better than the thing they could not have, whether that thing be a horse, a fine gun, or a girl. She had just thrown down a gauntlet, and as she watched, he picked it up.

First, if we were meeting at a coffee shop I’d be drinking a Latte. Today I’m feeling a bit festive and may try a gingerbread spiced Latte with Coconut Milk 🙂 What would you order?

I’d order a Crème Brulee latte from the Gulu Gulu café in my old stomping grounds, Salem, Mass.  Since I’m a Floridian now, I’m more likely to have a sweet tea 😉

Thanks so much for hanging out with me today. I must say, your Hacker series looks fabulous! I absolutely love the covers!

Thanks! I actually designed the original covers myself (I was a graphic designer in a past life). I love simple covers that don’t give too much of the story away and make people wonder what you’re reading!

Congrats on the Today Show mention earlier this fall. Did you know they were going to mention you? How many friends and family members texted or phoned you after the segment aired?
I got a brief heads up that they were going to mention it. I was in back to back interviews that day, but my Facebook definitely blew up with comments when it posted!

While I haven’t yet read the Hacker series I’m fascinated with the idea that it centers around computers/software development. I’m hoping it makes it into my holiday gift stash this season.

I ran a software company for a decade before I started writing full-time, so I had a lot of inspiration from my experiences in the tech world. I also had an amazing team of programmers and designers whose personalities made their way into the books. It was fun to weave those experiences in with a steamy love story.

I read that before you started writing you were a voracious reader. Are you still able to read as much?

As a mom and full-time writer, I don’t have a ton of time to read but it’s an important part of the creative process. “Keep good sentences in your ears,” as they say, and once a book pulls me in, I make time to see it through.

When you first set out to write this book did you ever imagine how large it would become?

I didn’t imagine that my readership would grow so much and so quickly, but like anyone else, I had big dreams.

As the former CEO for a software company was there anything that you had to research that came up while writing your series that you had not experienced before?

When I was writing some of the hacker scenes, I definitely consulted with my geek squad that I used to work with at my company to make sure everything sounded legit.

I admire that you strive to keep your writing and your family life separate and hope that your fans respect that. I can’t imagine that it’ easy.

The line between my author life and my “real life” gets blurrier with time. Being a writer is a huge part of my life, and my family is a huge part of who I am as a person, so fans get occasional glimpses into my personal world. People in the media have been really good about respecting my privacy though.

For those not familiar with your series can tell us… should we read the series in order or can each book be read as a stand alone?

The series should be read in order, starting with Hardwired.

Will there be any additional books in this series?

I’m tentatively plotting a spin-off story around two side characters, but I have no immediate plans to write or publish that book.

What’s next that we can look forward to?

Right now, I’m writing Into the Fire, the second book in the Bridge Series. People who read Cameron and Maya’s story in On My Knees, Bridge book #1 have been patiently waiting for this sequel, so I’m looking forward to delivering it this coming June.

Thank you so much for hanging out with me – it’s been a blast!

Thanks for having me! Have a great holiday!

Happy Reading Dear Readers.
Happy Writing Meredith!

***8 Tantalizing Tidbits***

1. What’s your Must read book and why?

If You Need to Cry, Go Outside, by Kelly Cutrone. This book is like an anthem for women. Sort of like Lean In meets fashion, with no corporate politeness or filter. Kelly has a great story and so many powerful points to make. She’s progressive, bitchy, and owns it. I love everything about this book, and if I loan it to you, it comes with strict instructions to return it when finished.

2. What is one place that I should see if I visit your hometown?

Right now I call Destin, Florida home, so I would have to advise spending a full day on the beach. Crystal white sands, emerald waters, and if you’re lucky, you’ll see some dolphins too!

3. What is one thing that  readers would be surprised to know about you?

I sleep with a teddy bear.

4.  Hard Rock or Classical? Favorite Band or Artist?

Alternative mostly, but my playlist is pretty ecclectic. I have way too many favorites to name! The Neighbourhood, Tracy Chapman, Family of the Year, Bonnie Raitt, and X Ambassadors are some of what I’m listening to lately.

5.  What is your guilty pleasure?

M/M romance

6.  Tats or No Tats? If tats, how many and what did you choose for your first one?

I have two tattoos. The first was a Celtic trinity knot which I had inked back when I was a rebellious college student.

7.  Binge watcher or weekly viewer? Which show(s)?

Binge. I can never remember to watch weekly. I’ve had a crazy year so I’m behind on a ton of my favorite shows!

8.  Do you love to cook or go out to eat?

I’ve recently rediscovered my love of cooking, but I can’t resist a fine dining experience with the hubby. If I had to choose, I’d always go with the latter.

Living on Florida’s Gulf Coast with her husband and three children, she refers to herself as a techie, whiskey-appreciator, and hopeless romantic.  After self-publishing her debut novel Hardwired in September 2013, Wild used her ten years of experience as a tech entrepreneur to push the boundaries of her “self-published” status, becoming stocked in brick-and-mortar bookstore chains nationwide and forging relationships with the major e-tailers. In December 2014, her fourth book in the series hit #1 on the New York Times  and Wall Street Journal  bestsellers lists, a rare feat for an indie author.

Under her own imprint, Waterhouse Press, Wild went on to sell over 1.2 million ebooks and 200,000 trade paperbacks before signing a $7m deal with Hachette’s Grand Central Publishing for the acquisition of her five Hacker Series novels. The fifth and final book, Hard Love, hit #2 on the New York Times bestsellers list and #6 on the USA Today bestsellers list its release week. I’ll Be There Blog Tour – It’s time to meet Zack Montgomery!

%name Ill Be There Blog Tour Its time to meet Zack Montgomery!

Hey, Everyone! It’s Samantha Chase and I am super excited to be here today with all of you at Books I Love a Latte (Hey, Rae!) and talking about the newest book in the Montgomery Brothers series, “I’ll Be There”. This is book six in the series and we are looking at the crankiest member of the family – Zach Montgomery. He has a good reason to be that way, but he’s making life crazy for everyone around him. You see…well, I’ll let him tell you about it.

Hey, ladies! Zach Montgomery here. I don’t know about you, but I am a total adrenaline junkie. Or…at least I used to be. I’m not jumping out of planes any time in the near future but man oh man did I have some great trips doing that sort of thing and more! I have some amazing memories from each and every one of my trips but I’ll give you some highlights – you know, just in case you’re looking for your own adrenaline rush!

1. The Rio Grande Bridge – Bungee jumping is always a great adrenaline rush. So hitting New Mexico and doing the jump off the Rio Grande Bridge – you jump and plummet from 565 feet above the Rio Grande.

2. Cage of Death – You can stare into the faces of some of Australia’s biggest saltwater crocodiles for 15 minutes, separated by nothing more than a couple inches of glass. The cage houses two people at a time and Ethan and I tried that one together. Once!

3. Death Drop – Four glorious seconds of terrified regret as you walk off a 53-meter high cliff and free fall at 180 kilometers an hour. You’ll just have time to catch the awesome view of Batoka Gorge before the terror of what you’re doing throws your stomach into your mouth and snaps your eyes shut. Sounds fun, right??

4. Ice Climbing – Those who scale mountains in the summertime go ice climbing in the winter, and there isn’t a more beautiful place to do so than the Canadian Rockies. I think I may need more warm-weather activities!

5. Cresta Run – Cresta Run offers a 130 km/h, body-flattening ride that piles enough G-force to match any rollercoaster. The Cresta opens before Christmas, and continues until spring, but you have to apply to be allowed on the course. Luckily, I was able to get on this and it was well worth it!

Jade Lee’s spotlight tour for One Rogue at a Time

%name Jade Lee’s spotlight tour for One Rogue at a Time
The second in Jade Lee’s saucy Rakes and Rogues series, One Rogue at a Time, comes out this December! To celebrate, Jade played a quick round of ‘Would You Rather?’ with us and sent an excerpt from the book to share.

Would you rather email an embarrassing message to your entire newsletter or eat a jar of mayonnaise? Ewwwwwww! Well, that kinda easy because I send out embarrassing stuff all the time. I’ve certainly sent silly things to my entire newsletter list. So I guess I’ve already picked!

In this excerpt our heroine (nicknamed Bluebell) is angling for our hero to take her to London where she can meet her father for the first time. She’s bargained for speaking lessons, and now she’s bartering for a ride to London. But she isn’t prepared for the price he demands.

“You want me to take you to Oxfordshire and then on to London,” Bram accused. “You want me to dress up this fine carriage and let you appear before your relations like a fine lady. You’ve been planning that from the moment you met me.”

“Ooo, an’ me a simple maid from ’Ull. Wot makes ye think I could muster all that?” She exaggerated her accent such that his back molars ground together in disgust.

“Admit it. That’s what you want.”

She lifted her chin. “And what if I do? You’re free t’ say no.”

“No.”

“There. Fine. Ye’ve said it. But I can pay—”

He grabbed her chin, pulling it—and her—toward him. Part of him thrilled at finally touching her pristine skin. Part of him watched how her eyes widened and the pupils darkened, her mouth slipping open on a gasp. Was she afraid of him? Yes. Obviously. And he tried to care. He tried to tell himself that he didn’t want to punish her for crimes she hadn’t committed. But she was a schemer just like the others, and so he damned her all the same.

“I will take you to London,” he said, his voice low, his breath hot.

She didn’t answer, and he didn’t care.

“But there’s only one payment I’ll take.”

“No,” she whispered. “I’m a lady.”

“Say it all you like, Miss Bluebell, but I know the truth.”

She swallowed, trying to pull herself back, but she was still sitting on the barrel, so she had nowhere to run. She stilled and her eyes narrowed.

“Wot truth? That I want to go to London? That I want proof o’ my father? Or that you’re nothing but a man with ruttin—”

He kissed her. He wasn’t slow, and he wasn’t remotely gentle. And the fact that she was completely untutored in the way of kissing infuriated him even more. She was a lie. She deserved all the pain he could give her. She was…

She was an innocent, and he had to soften. He had to become gentle with her, and so he did. He didn’t want to, contradictory beast that he was. He liked his anger. Stoked it to a hot flame, but not against her.

So he softened. He gentled.

Where before he had simply wrenched her mouth to his, he now petted her chin. And though he had forced his tongue into her, he eased his penetration. He teased her and then pulled back.

“You are a lie,” he said to her panting chest.

“You are a brute,” she answered, anger vibrating out of her.

“Yes, and worse. I’m a bastard.”

“You’re not even ashamed.”

Oh, he was. He was riddled with shame, but he wouldn’t let her see it. She had to know the truth about him before she tried to play her games. “I’ll take you wherever you want to go, Miss Bluebell. But I’ll be taking you as I do it.”

He felt the impact of his words on her body. She shuddered, but she also licked her lips. Part of her wanted him, brute though he was.

“I am a lady.”

“Ladies spread their legs for me all the time.”

“Not me.”

“Then I’ll not take you anywhere.”

He felt her accept the truth of his words. Her body bowed, and her shoulders drooped. But when she spoke, her voice was strong with conviction.

“I don’t need you to take me. I’ve coin eno’. The mail coach goes to Oxfordshire and London.”

“You’ll be prey to every bloke who sees you.”

She finally jerked her chin away from the stroke of his fingers. “’At’s been true since I first started filling out a dress.” And then before he could anticipate her move, before it even registered that he was in danger, she lifted her knee.

How she’d maneuvered it so perfectly, he didn’t know. But one moment he was hard as a rock, still thinking of ways he could make her willing. The next there was a blinding flash of white-hot pain, and he was crumpled onto the ground.

He couldn’t breathe. He couldn’t think. He just knew pain. And one word:

Bravo.

*****Historical Road Trip with Elizabeth Moss*****

In Rebel Bride, Hugh and Susannah travel the dangerous roads of Tudor England together, forced into each other’s company by circumstances. Beautiful and feisty, Susannah has run away from her cruel father in Yorkshire. Finding her in the wild forest, Hugh is determined to escort his willful charge safely to the king’s court.

Fictional journeys like this often work as metaphors for a character’s inward journey towards emotional or spiritual development. For Susannah, this journey to London is about resistance and attraction; for Hugh, it’s a struggle between physical desire and his moral duty to protect this young woman – even from himself!

Travel in Tudor England was not easy, even for a courtier like Hugh Beaufort. Beyond London, major roads were little better than muddy tracks, with robbers and bandits lying in wait for the unwary traveler. Within towns, local citizens were charged with the upkeep of roads; in reality, this meant Tudor streets were dark, narrow and uneven, pitted with potholes, and strewn with rubbish and human ordure. The wealthy travelled by horse or curtained litter, a good horse covering up to 30 miles per day. There were no carriages yet, and carts would have been deeply uncomfortable for passengers, lacking any form of suspension as they jolted and bumped over every pothole.

Road trips around England could take a week to ten days to complete, and wealthy travelers like Hugh and Susannah usually preferred not to hurry. Every night would be spent at a wayside inn, as journeying after dark was impractical without lights. If you could find a place to stay that looked clean and was free of plague, you were lucky. Popular inns might be crowded with travelers, and being forced to share a bed with a stranger was not unheard-of. Though on their journey, Hugh has to be careful – in public at least – to keep his distance from an unmarried lady like Susannah.

Fare would have been simple too. Inn keepers or famers along the way might provide travelers with the equivalent of a packed lunch for the journey. Our hero and heroine probably dined on bread and cheese, smoked bacon, honey cakes, and a stoppered flask of beer, consumed at the roadside. As a courtier, Hugh might have insisted on wine and perhaps sweetmeats for his lady companion. Besides onions for flavor, even wealthy Tudors rarely consumed vegetables, though seasonal fruits were popular and often elaborately prepared.

Hugh and Susannah’s Tudor tips for your own road trip:

Never argue with thy love in front of thy companions on the road, for fear of shaming one another.

Journey not for many hours without ceasing, but take thy ease from time to time, for fear of some mishap.

Avoid excess of wine and music late at night when the body is weak and the desire strong.

Consume not strong onions with thy cheese. Or, if thou must, keep a sprig or two of parsley close at hand and so avoid the reek of foul breath.

Let neither wine nor ale confuse thee on horseback, but keep thy good wits sharp, remembering that robbers and uneven roads ever assail the unwary traveler.

Carry a saint’s bone or other holy relic in thy purse, and thou shalt end thy journey safely and in good spirits.
