Rae: Good Morning Barb! First, if we were meeting at a coffee shop I’d be drinking a Latte 🙂 What would you order?

Barbara: My drink of choice is always the same. I love a venti soy hazelnut latte. My husband says he needs a chair and a whip to get anywhere near me before I’ve had my morning java.

Rae: Thanks so much for taking the time to answer a few questions.  I absolutely love The Brethren Series!!! I must ask, how many delicious books do you anticipate for this yummy series?  Super excited that book 5 is almost here!

Barbara: Thank you, so much, for hosting my naughty Nautionnier Knights and I. To answer your question, the BOC series will have 10 books, total. However, since you’ve read the books, you’ve come to know the 5 original knights from the prologues. In 2015, I’m kicking off a new series, by reader demand. Brethren Origins will tell the stories of the fabulous virgin 5: Arucard, Demetrius, Aristide, Morgan, and Geoffrey. 2015 will also see the debut of The Lucky One, which is Dalton Randolph’s story, and I know so many of my readers will be thrilled to hear that my hotheaded Blake Elliott will find his mate, in Love With An Improper Stranger, when he least expects it—and he’s not happy about it.

8 Tantalizing Tidbits!

1. A Must read book and why?

The 19th Century American Gothic Hope Leslie, by Catharine Maria Sedgwick, is my must read book. On the surface, it is an unapologetic examination of 17th Century New England and the dispossession and extermination of  American Indians. But at its core is a beautifully composed historical romance between the Indian Oneco and his “white bird” Faith, and their subsequent inter-racial marriage, which was quite controversial, given the book was first published in 1827.  I love rebellious reads.

2. What is one place that I should see if I visit your hometown?

In light of the local investment in downtown Fort Worth, TX, I’d tell anyone visiting my hometown to spend an afternoon or evening in Sundance Square. There’s so much life and vitality to the area, and Fort Worthers are friendly folks. It’s full of great shops, restaurants, and bars, and the atmosphere is relaxed. It’s the perfect place to unwind during the hectic pace that often accompanies travel.

3.  Castles or Beaches?

As much as I love exploring archaeological sites, I have to pick beaches. My husband and I were married on South Maluaka Beach on Maui. There’s nothing like the sand between your toes, the smell of the ocean, and the sound of waves crashing ashore. Reminds me how insignificant we are, in the grand scheme of  life.

4. What is one thing readers would be surprised to know about you?

I think most people would be surprised to know that I’m a disabled, retired police officer. Given the  state of banking in the late 80s, I had to adapt to the changing job market, and it just so happened my department was hiring when the last bank I worked at folded. Is there anything more stressful than unemployment?

5.  When you are traveling do you prefer to road trip if or fly it?

See my answer to what I’m afraid of, for an additional explanation. When it comes to travel, I love road trips. Lately, hubby and I have flown to either coast, rented a car, and driven vast expanses of our great nation. A few years back, we flew to Seattle, rented a car, and drove the Pacific Coast highway. Just last month, we flew to Boston and drove New England. We started in Maine, then cruised to New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and then back to Boston. It was amazing. I love car trips, because you can take your time, go at your own pace, and often mingle with locals. We also make a concerted attempt to patronize locally owned businesses.

6. What are you afraid of?

It might surprise readers to know that I harbor a deep-seated fear of flying. Seriously, just driving to the airport gives me sweaty palms. It stems from a very rough landing at Washington National Airport, when I was a child, and I still refuse to fly into that airport. And my fear was reinforced and intensified, after a missed landing at La Guardia, during a vicious storm, on a surprise wedding anniversary trip. I felt so bad for my husband, because it took hours for me to stop puking, and he had all sorts of romantic endeavors planned.

7. What’s your favorite TV show and why?

Well it was Boardwalk Empire, because I adore the baddie gangsters, but it ended. A close second is Game of Thrones, because it’s pure fantasy. I love the various character arcs, and Martin excels at
character development. Now if he would just stop killing off all my favorites. Conversely, I avoid reality shows like the plague, because I’m quite familiar with life, in all its intricacies.

8. Would you rather see a movie in the theatre or at home on DVD and why?

The short answer is both. Now, let me expound. There is nothing that compares to watching an epic drama, a sweeping romance, a sci-fi or horror, or an action-adventure film in the movie theatre, with their big screens and surround-sound systems contributing another layer to the mise-en-scène. In the mega-movie-plexes, the viewer is literally enshrouded in the visual and audial experience. I’ve seen Gone With The Wind in the theatre, and it’s breathtaking. Think of the Marvel masterpieces. Can you imagine the Avengers limited to the flat screen in your living room? That said, I own copies of my favorite movies on DVD, because so many features contain subtle nuances that require numerous viewings to identify. One of my favorite movies is Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. It’s an amazing work of art, and every time I watch it, I discover something new that I’d missed in previous viewings.

Rae: THANK YOU SO MUCH for your time.  It was a pleasure “chatting” with you, and I look forward to posting about Captain of Her Heart (Book 5 of The Brethren Series) tomorrow!

In addition your readers will be thrilled to hear that from Nov. 14-18, Enter the Brethren and My Lady, the Spy will be FREE for download. What a super way to celebrate the release of your latest book!

First, if we were meeting in a coffee shop I’d be drinking a latte J

What would you order? A skim mocha. Yum!

8 Tantalizing Tidbits!

1. A MUST read book and why? Simply Love by Catherine Anderson. This book opened my world to the romance genre and inspired me to begin my writing journey.

2. What is one place that I should see if I visit your hometown? It’s spring here in Austrailia and there’s an abundance of sunshine, blue skies and beautiful flowers, so I’d pack a picnic basket and rug and take you to Catract Dam. Built between 1902 and 1907, Cataract Dam is the oldest dam in Sydney’s water supply system. Set against a backdrop of densely wooded shores, some say it’s also the most picturesque.

3. Amusement Parks or Nature Parks? Nature Parks

4. What is your guilty pleasure? Cadbury Dairy Milk Marvellous Creations Jelly Popping Beanies *sigh*

5.  What is your fav orite current TV show and why? Outlander. I loved reading these books and now it’s wonderful seeing them brought to life on TV. Oh, and have I mentioned I love men in kilts.

6. Country or City Girl? I’m a country girl, but I do like visiting the city now and then.

7. First rock concert- who, where and how old were you? My first rock concert was to see the band Queen at Sydney’s Entertainment Centre. I was eighteen, and it was the best concert ever!

8. If you had an all expenses paid trip anywhere in the world for research, where would you go and why? Definitely Scotland! There’s something about Scotland that touches my heart and stirs my soul. I write Scottish historical romance and would take any opportunity to revisit Scotland and explore her glorious castles, her magnificent landscape and her turbulent history.

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to chat!

Coffee with Tawny Weber

91 A7GqAAVL. SY466 104x165 Coffee with Tawny WeberWelcome Tawny!
Congrats on the recent release of A SEAL’s Fantasy earlier this week!

If we were meeting at a coffee shop I’d be drinking a Latte of course!

What would you order? My usual, extra large black iced tea, no sweetener. Love it!

8 Tidbits for your readers:

1. A Must read book and why? The War of Art by Steven Pressfield because it’s simply amazing. The concept of tackling resistance applies to anything and everything in life, and his take on how to recognize it, face it and overcome it is fabulous. This book is one of my at least once-yearly re-reads.

2. What is one place that I should see if I visit your hometown? I live just outside of San Fransisco, so I love taking people to see the Golden Gate. Both the bridge and the park. They are absolutely gorgeous!

3. Castles or Beaches? I adore castles, but love the beach. So I’d like a castle on the cliffs overlooking a beach. Yes, I want it all!

4. Hard Rock or Classical? Classic Hard Rock  😀 I do love my hair bands!

5. Organized or Free Floating? Oh so organized! I’d go crazy otherwise.

6. What’s your favorite TV show of all time and why? Friends because it’s hilarious, sweet and not only honors friendships, but has some great love stories in there.

7. Would you rather see a movie in the theatre or at home on DVD and why? 90% of the movies I’d rather see at home on DVD because it’s easier to relax, I have a better variety of movie snacks and can pause anytime I want without missing out on the movie. But some movies simply require big screen for the first viewing. Iron Man, Star Wars, POTC (gotta see Johnny bigger than life), the Harry Potter movies.  Anything with special effects, those require a big screen to really appreciate.

8. If you could invite 5 people to dinner (not friends and family – that’s too easy) who would you invite? It could be anyone past or present.
Nora Roberts
Dr. Wayne Dyer
Johnny Depp
Jennifer Aniston
Ralph Waldo Emerson

I’d order a Decaf Venti Skim Extra-Whip-Cream mocha!!

8 Tidbits for your readers:

1. A Must read book and why? Renegade by Nancy Northcott- One of the best magical-related adventure/romances I’ve read in recent years. Really, really fast-paced and cool!! Great start to a new series as well.

2. What is one place that I should see if I visit your hometown? My “hometown” is about the size of a pea, and there just isn’t much to see there. However, the nearest town of any size, Wilkesboro, NC features The Tory Oak. The general story is that the original tree was a “hanging tree” for Tories who tried to turn the area over to the British during the Revolution. The tree was well over 300 years old when it perished in 1997. It was replaced by another Black Oak tree and an historic marker was erected to commemorate the tree. All the Wilkesboro high School Class rings up until the 1990s featured the Tory Oak.

3. Castles or Beaches? – Castles! I adore them, they have places to hide, they have treasure and ghosts and all manner of interesting things
to engage the mind. I love the beach, but I love castles more! (And my bucket list castle-to-visit is Rosslyn Castle in Scotland!)

4. Hard Rock or Classical? I love them both, but if I absolutely had to choose, Hard Rock all the way. Grins.

5. If you had an all expenses paid trip anywhere in the world for research, where would you go? Scotland, Scotland and then, perhaps, Scotland. I want to see the standing stones, the Isle of Lewis, the Military Tattoo at Edinburgh Castle, the Kelpies, and Doon the Chippy in Glasgow…and virtually everything else I can see. So, yes. Scotland.

6. What is your guilty pleasure? Coffee ice cream milkshakes from Baskin Robbins or coffee milkshakes with whipped cream from a local burger joint call BGR.

7. What are you afraid of? Ticks. I loathe and despise them. They’re one of the few things on the planet that give me the creeping horrors.

8. Organized or Free Floating? Both. I’m really, really organized about some things. Others? It’s the pile-and-bulldoze system of organization. Ha! Mostly, I’m a fly by the seat of your pants gals. I’m organized in a way only I can understand.

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to chat! Looking forward to everyone finding out what I already know, The Tentacle Affaire is fabulous!

AUTHOR BIO:

Although Jeanne Adams likes calling North Carolina home, she lives in DC, where The Tentacle Affaire is set, and often jogs on the C&O towpath with her dogs.  Her favorite holiday is Halloween.  She starts planning the annual yard decor on November 1.  Alas, in this case however, the “Adams Family” – one husband, two sons and three dogs – is all bark and no bite.

On another spooky note, Jeanne used to work in the funeral and cemetery business, and knows a thing or two about getting rid of the body….bwhahahah!  (She even teaches classes about it to other writers!)

Jeanne has written suspense novels for Kensington/Zebra Publishing since 2007.  THE TENTACLE AFFAIRE is her first urban fantasy/romance.
