Excerpt
“I must say, Willow. Well done.”
It was really hard to relax in the massaging chair while getting the world’s greatest foot rub when all your grandmother wanted to do was talk about sex.
The car ride over had been hell.
The only silver lining was that her mother had opted out of getting pedicures–she thought the salons were too unsanitary.
I wish I had thought of that…
“Gammy, please…”
“All I’m saying is I…” She paused and seemed to consider her words. Reaching over, she held one of Willow’s hands. “Now, don’t be upset with me, but…”
“But…?”
“But I was beginning to think you made him up.”
Eyes wide, Willow had no idea what to say. Her mouth seemed like it was moving, but no words came out.
“You were always so vague on the phone whenever we talked about Levi, and at first, I thought you were just being shy. Then I thought you didn’t want to share because the relationship was new and you didn’t want to jinx it.” She sighed. “But after a while, I thought he was a figment of your imagination, and honestly, I didn’t want to embarrass you by calling you out on it.”
Maybe I can go for a bikini wax and get away from this.
“When the two of you pulled into my driveway though, hoo-wee! I got a glimpse of Levi and thought, what a lucky girl you are!”
Seriously, hot wax all over my crotch would be less painful…
“And his hands! Oh, my…he has the kind of large hands that you know can make you tingle in all the right places!” She shook Willow’s hand excitedly. “Is he a good kisser?”
“Gams, I’m really not comfortable talking about this with you. Or anyone, really. What Levi and I have is…private.”
“Sweetie, there’s nothing wrong with sharing just a little bit. It’s all harmless fun. I mean, I’m 75 years old. It’s not like I haven’t been where you are. I mean, your grandfather–God rest his soul–was a wonderful husband and a fantastic lover…”
“OH MY GOD!” her hands flew over her ears.
“Sex is a healthy part of life! I’m not asking for specifics, just a general idea. Although, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t wish for you to have a fantastic sex life too. You’re young and pretty and have such a curvy little body! Honestly, I wish my boobs were still…”
“Lalalalala!” Willow cried out as she stuck her fingers in her ears.
Gammy swatted at her arm. “I never would have pegged you for a prude, Willow. I have to say, I’m a little disappointed.” And with a dramatic sigh, she turned her attention to the nail attendant who was massaging her feet. “That feels wonderful. Thank you.”
They sat in silence for several minutes until Willow couldn’t take it anymore. “Okay, Gam, here’s the thing,” she began carefully. “I’m just not used to…you know…talking sex with anyone other than my friends. My mother never talks about it…”
“Your mother’s too uptight.”
No argument there…
“You know what I’m saying. We never did this before and…”
“You never brought a sexy boyfriend here before.”
“We never did this before,” she repeated for emphasis. “And I’m not comfortable this.”
“Would it help if I told you a little about my sex life?”
Oh, dear God…
“Remember the night I beat you at Words With Friends and I mentioned I was going out with Donald?”
“If I say no, can we change the subject?”
“No.”
“What if I say yes? Then can we change the subject?”
“I’m ignoring you and telling my story,” Gammy said stubbornly. “Now, I wouldn’t say that Donald is my steady beau, but we do out together once a week, and he has been known to spend the night.”
Groaning, Willow turned her head and rested it on her hand.
Again.
“Viagra is a game-changer, let me tell you.”
“I really wish you wouldn’t.”
“But I really miss the spontaneity, you know? Sometimes it would be nice to just be able to…you know…do it whenever we wanted rather than waiting those pesky thirty minutes.”
Another groan.
“One time, Donald took two pills instead of one!” She laughed joyously. “Now that was a memorable night!”
“Levi’s an amazing kisser! And his hands are a little rough and scratchy, and I love the way they feel against my skin! And the sex is the stuff of fantasies!” Willow blurted out loudly and then noticed the entire nail salon had gone quiet.
Dammit.
Gammy gave her a knowing grin. “I knew I’d wear you down.”
“Gammy…” she whined.
“The stuff of fantasies, huh? Bravo!”
“Yup. Fantasies.”
Mainly because that’s the only point of reference I have where sex with Levi is concerned…
“I’ll say it again, Willow. Well done. I think he is absolutely perfect for you.”

Oct 16, 2020 | Blog, Kwana Jackson, October 2020
Real Men Knit by Kwana Jackson is a slow burn romance that is absolutely satisfying and worthy of your next bookcation.
As you delve into this fabulous and fun read you’ll soon find the desire to either grab your current fiber project, or run to your local yarn shop and find a new one. The urge to feel the yarn in your hands as they wrap around your needles made me love this story even more. It’s not often you find a knitting story that delivers in spades. Your heart will squeeze with every page turned and every stitch cast.
I was consumed with this story from start to finish. An indie store, a local favorite run by a beloved member of the community will bring so many together to discover purpose, love, and laughter. Kerry and Jesse are relatable, loveable, and perfect for each other. When these childhood friends find themselves in a tight space they will soon be faced with a choice to take a leap of faith. Secrets can consume, will they find a way to trust and resolve everything before it’s too late?
With every turn of the page my fingers welcomed the heat from the story, the skilled words that flowed effortlessly from chapter to chapter. Anyone can knit – it’s relaxing, fun, and sexy. Grab a scan of yarn, a pair of needles and discover a new world. Defy norms and see why this is the perfect craft to pick up now.
Kwana delivered a novel about family, the power of faith, the ability to achieve greatness and defy gender norms, and above all, what it means to follow your heart. These characters pull you in tight with each and every stitch. I’d love to see this as a movie and would love to know who you think would be the perfect cast.
This spicy – Best enjoyed with your favorite iced-beverage, a cozy chair, and maybe a fan. I received an advance copy for a fair and honest review. Get your copy now and find out why Kwama is must read romance. I can’t wait for more Strong brother stories.

Oct 16, 2020 | Avery Flynn, Blog, October 2020
An unexpected heir, an estate, and Avery Flynn in the writers chair mean you’re in for a royal adventure. Two characters who come from different walks of life discover that they want the same thing. Will Brooke and Nick find love? Will family honor and duty win out over love? I wish I could book a ticket and hang out at the estate.
A story that is chock full of sass, witty banter, and delicious romance you can savor over and over again. I am always up for a story that takes you on an adventure with all the feels. While many of us can’t travel this will provide a welcome escape.
This scorchin read may lead to unexpected need to turn on the A/C. I received a copy for a fair and honest review.
I can’t wait to read more from Avery Flynn. While we’re waiting for her next release, be sure to check out her extended backlist and take a bookcation now!

Oct 15, 2020 | Blog, October 2020, Scott Hildreth
Misadventures of a Biker by Scott Hildreth is a second chance romance that has the perfect balance of heat, great characters, and a whole lot of misadventure ;). I was reminded of my own adventures on a Harley back in college and wondering if I’ll have the chance to ride again.
I enjoyed reading a new-to-me author and can’t wait to read another book from Scott’s backlist. Brace yourself, Devin and Teddi are taking you on a wild ride with all the feels and lots of heat. The best part, when you’re finished you’ll still want more from Scott!

This scorchin read may lead to unexpected need to turn on the A/C. I received a copy for a fair and honest review.

Misadventures is a romantic series of spicy standalone novels, each written or co-written by some of the best names in romance. The stories are scandalous, refreshing, and, of course, incredibly sexy. They’re the perfect bedside read, a ‘quick blush’ for the reader who loves a page-turning romance.

Meet Scott

Scott Hildreth is an international bestselling author. He has published more than fifty novels (both traditionally and independently) and has every intention of writing many more.
His preferred careers of being a biker, military hero, mafia boss, boxer, vigilante, and tattoo artist will always be favorites, but as writing has become a full-time gig, he must live vicariously through the characters in his books who share his admiration for these professions.
He resides in Naples, Florida with his wife and children.
Oct 13, 2020 | Blog, Coffee With, Giveaway, October 2020, Pru Warren
Rae: Welcome to the blog. I’ve got a spiced Latte with Almond Milk and a drizzle of chocolate in my mug. What’s in your cuppa?
Pru: Yours sounds pretty good! At the moment, though, my cuppa is a vat of Earl Grey with an embarrassingly large quantity of half-and-half as well as my personal demon, sugar. Also – thank you. I’m delighted to be here!
Rae: Congratulations on your recent release of “Joan’s Journal” in the Anthology Love Gone Viral. I love that all the proceeds from the sale will be donated to World Central Kitchen and Feeding America. Romance fiction is so powerful and the community is so giving. I can’t wait to hear how much you all raise.
Pru: Me, too! And I love that we’re donating 100% of the proceeds to programs that combat hunger. There’s something so offensive – so intrinsically wrong – about people in this nation going hungry. I think about families with hungry kids and it makes me almost ill. Even in this bizarre economy, that’s not the world I want to live in. I hope we can sell a lot of books, to help people in need. Fingers crossed!

1. What is your must read book and why?
I have two entire bookcases filled with the books I hope come with me if I’m ever abducted by aliens; the books I need to have if I’m trapped in a Kurt Vonnegut zoo on another planet. But if I had to pick just one… hang on. Let me go stare at them. Oh, Lordy. Don’t tell the others I chose a favorite: I’mma pick Jennifer Crusie. “Welcome to Temptation.”
2. If I visit your hometown, where am I going and what’s the best place to grab a bite?
You’re going to northern Virginia, and we’re either going to get souvlaki pitas at the family restaurant down the street or we’re hitting one of the Great American restaurants; I like Artie’s because they have insanely good hot fudge sundaes. (Sugar. My own personal demon. Comes with me everywhere.)
3. What is one thing readers would be surprised to know about you?
Given that I am entirely unpublished until now, I can’t imagine anyone knows anything about me in the first place… but okay: I can harmonize a ton. I always wanted to be a back-up singer.
4. What is your guilty pleasure?
It used to be romance novels instead of terrifyingly sad Book Club picks – but now I’m writing romantic comedy and I’m proud as could be of it!
5. What are you afraid of?
Snakes. I saw a black snake in the garden two years ago and abandoned the space entirely. I wish he’d do more weeding; things are looking very tatty in his kingdom.
6. Tats or No Tats? If tats, how many and what did you choose for your first one?
No tats. I admire them – but I keep evolving. I can’t imagine choosing one image that would continue to delight me for the rest of my life.
7. Binge watcher or weekly viewer? Which show(s)?
Binge. Definitely. I just blew through “The Expanse” (and then all the novels), and before that I had to rewatch the entirety of “Parks and Recreation” while doing an annoyingly hard jigsaw puzzle. Before that… I think it was “Jack Ryan.” Jim from The Office cleans up NICE.
8. If you could pick a book you’ve read and make it into a movie, which book would it be (besides yours 🙂 )?
“Poison Princess” by Kresley Cole. It’s YA, but it’s very, very good! Wish she’d get cracking on the next one; I’ve got an envie for the sequel. (From the books. I’m making inside jokes to myself.)
9. What is the one thing you can’t live without?
Burt’s Bees pink grapefruit chapstick. I have them hidden all over the house, in the pocket of every coat, in every tote bag. There are two in the car – just in case. As addictions go, it’s pretty milquetoast… but I’m not alone. There are a lot of us chapstick addicts!
10. What’s the one career that gives you the shudders?
The job of picking up road kill on Rock Creek Parkway.
11. If I opened up your handbag/bag/briefcase, what item would I be shocked to see?
I’d be shocked to see a handbag or purse; I carry only my phone in a case where I can stick credit cards, etc. There’s nothing shocking here; maybe the Nordstroms gift card my mother gave me before she died? Will you accept sentimental instead of shocking?
12. What app on your phone/ipad gets the most use?
Would that it were something more elevated… in fact, it’s solitaire. Jeez. I should make up something better. Pretend I said THE NEW YORK TIMES APP. There. That sounds teddibleh intelligent.
Rae: Thank you for hanging out today.
