1. What is your favorite Thanksgiving tradition: There’s so many!! It’s hard to pick a “favorite” tradition when there are so many things that we do year after year that are part of the delightful whole. When I close my eyes and think of them all, I see snippets of what gives me the greatest joy. I’ll share a few- Having my husband’s warm fingers wrap around my hand when the family gathers around the table for grace and to share what we are grateful for. Seeing the shinning eyes of my grandchildren and their uninhibited smiles on their beautiful faces when I sneak them a taste of desert before dinner is served. The relaxed and happy expressions on the faces of all the generations as the one-on-one or small group conversations ate fully underway in the living room and kitchen. Yes, the gumbo and pecan pies are served every year… but the tiny moments is what makes Holidays memorable.
2. How do you decorate your table and home? I keep things simple. I fill my home with fresh flowers and arrangements with pumpkins. I also have Glass and ceramic pumpkins placed around.
3. My favorite hostess gift is… Edibles. Something homemade and placed in a pretty dish to leave behind.
4. It’s time to pack up the leftovers, what do you do with all the food? Share it, use it for other yummy dishes or toss it?
OH NO! We never toss it. We share it with everyone there ore make plates to deliver to family and friends who were unable to join us or may be home ill. My mother-in-law likes to make Turkey Gumbo with the leftovers too. Yum!
5. Black Friday shopping – on line fun, up early with a cup of java and a long list, or last minute shopper and don’t care about the sales? I care about the sales, but I’ve been in the chaos on Black Friday and am not a fan. I over buy, race around for things I got excited about in the frenzy of the moment. Then I have a heated basketball goal or perfume that smells like beer or some such craziness with no one to gift it to. Lol. I admire those who really make it a family or friend event!
6. I am thankful for…Love. Life. Family. Friends. Readers.
I’m so grateful for each of these things and people that make up the whole of my incredibly blessed life.
And, I’m thankful that I can include you, Rae, as my friend. Thank you for inviting me into your “Books I Love a Latte” world. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your Family. And Happy Thanksgiving to everyone Reading this and your families too.

Samantha Chase:
1. What is your favorite Thanksgiving tradition? We don’t have any exciting traditions for Thanksgiving. Our big thing is the meal – which is always the same. Boring, right? Once we moved to NC and didn’t have any family around, we started making the Thanksgiving meal that was filled with the things we wanted and I’ve been making it that way for 20 years!
2. How do you decorate your table and your home? Very basic. We’re normally a small group so I have a nice fall colored tablecloth and use my grandparents good china.
3. My favorite hostess gift is… Chocolate!
4. It’s time to pack up the leftovers, what do you do with all the food? Share it, use it for other yummy dishes or toss it? When our older son comes for the holiday, I always send him home with enough for a meal or two for himself. Then there’s always more for us to have at least another dinner or two. We love having it the next day for lunch!
5. Black Friday shopping – on line fun, up early with a cup of java and a long list, or last minute shopper and don’t care about the sales? I used to be up early on Black Friday when the kids were little. Once they got older, online shopping was way easier. I’m almost done shopping already and it’s the first week of November!
6. I am thankful for… my family
Bio: Samantha Chase is a New York Times and USA Today bestseller of contemporary romance that’s hotter than sweet, sweeter than hot. She released her debut novel in 2011 and currently has more than sixty titles under her belt – including THE CHRISTMAS COTTAGE which was a Hallmark Christmas movie in 2017! When she’s not working on a new story, she spends her time reading romances, playing way too many games of Solitaire on Facebook, wearing a tiara while playing with her sassy pug Maylene…oh, and spending time with her husband of 28 years and their two sons in North Carolina.

1. What is your favorite Thanksgiving tradition? Every Thanksgiving we go to Carmel, CA. My husband’s family has been meeting there for a week at Thanksgiving his entire life (and most of his mom’s) and now my whole family comes too. It’s my favorite place in the world and my favorite holiday since both of our families — and most of the extended parts of each! — comes for some part of the week.
2. How do you decorate your table and your home? I don’t really decorate for Thanksgiving since we always travel, but I have a fall table runner and a bunch of mini pumpkins I like to put out on the dining room table with some candle holders. I try to keep my dining room table decorated, but my husband and two sons see the dining room as project space, so more often than not, my decor gets shifted to a pile in favor of tools, monitors, wires and various other pieces of generalized dude crap.
3. My favorite hostess gift is… WINE or chocolate.
4. It’s time to pack up the leftovers, what do you do with all the food? Share it, use it for other yummy dishes or toss it? I love it when everyone gets sent home with a little box of their favorite stuff. I love a turkey sandwich with stuffing and cranberry on the day after!
5. Black Friday shopping – on line fun, up early with a cup of java and a long list, or last minute shopper and don’t care about the sales? Online only and not specifically on Black Friday. I don’t even know how to shop in real stores anymore.
6. I am thankful for healthy children and a family that loves to see us enough to invite us every year!
BIO: I’m Delancey Stewart – contemporary romance author! My books run the gamut of settings and setups, but they always deliver humor, heart and heat. It’s a guarantee.
I write from my home outside Washington DC, where I manage a household full of boys and men. Okay, only one man. The hubs. But two boys. I mean, three if you count the hubs. (You see why I do words and not numbers. I was told there’d be no math in this bio. Someone lied.)
I grew up in California and have had more jobs than anyone on earth (personal trainer, pharmaceutical rep, copywriter, tech writer, marketing director, wine seller, elementary school teacher… I’m not kidding. The list. It goes on.) But the one I love the most is writing, in part because I get to meet people who love books and stories as much as I do! Please don’t hesitate to get in touch to say hello, and don’t forget to join my newsletter!

Thank you to all the authors who shared their packing tips and travel wisdom. We loved reading your top five things to pack, favorite snacks and what you forgot and swore to remember next time.
Well readers and authors, the time has come to pull out the suitcases and finalize the lists. Whether you use an excel spreadsheet or paper, all that matters is that you hopefully remember to bring all-the-things.
I hope that the Authors Dish posts were helpful. I’ve put together a fun list with all the things that were mentioned, and added a handful of extra items for those that want it on one piece of paper.
To ensure that those refillable water bottles stay clean all week, I always take a ziploc bag of small sponge pieces soaked with liquid dish soap. All you need to do is cut it into small pieces and add liquid dish soap. Let it sit overnight and in the morning toss them in a ziploc bag. They work great cleaning out water bottles and would be perfect for that electric skillet Tawna ;).
Oh, if you’re super cautious about making sure the room is clean, toss a few lysol wipes in a ziploc bag. They come in handy wiping an airplane tray, remote controls or anything else you want extra clean ;).
If there is something you bring and I missed it, comment below.
I can’t wait to see everyone next week. Safe travels.

Welcome newbies and seasoned travel veterans to Authors Dish. With less than a week until Romance Writers of America 2019 I’m curious what authors and industry professionals always include in their suitcases, what they stash in their conference bag to avoid hunger pains and the things they forget once and hopefully never again.
While some of the authors contributing are not attending, we love they want to hang out and play. We hope their words of wisdom help to ease any anxiety you might have getting all the things in your suitcase.
May these posts inspire you to shop early, make your lists, and triple check so you are prepared for just about anything. If you’re heading to #RWA19 soon comment below so we can meet up in NYC.
As the conference is almost upon us, this is the last post of author fun. Thank you to all who have dished and those who are still sharing their wisdom. Stay tuned for more comments and follow the blog so you don’t miss these posts.
Today in the cafe are New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Jennifer Probst, USA Today Bestselling Author Avery Flynn and Author Delancey Stewart
Rae: What five things do you have to pack when attending a conference?
Jennifer Probst:
I know everyone gets tired of hearing it but: comfortable shoes! Oh, Lord, have I regretted stumbling around in my cute heels just because I never get a chance to wear them! Then I always have LipSense Lip Gloss to reapply throughout the day, swag to give out to readers or other authors with your website on it *business cards are fine too!*, battery charger *I actually use the one I received from the RWA conference years ago!* and finally, pens. Always be prepared with a pen, my peeps!
Avery Flynn:
1.Pajamas (yes I’ve forgotten before).
2. Snacks for the room.
3. An extra outfit because of my ability to spill on everything.
4. Flip flops/slides/ballet slippers for when the heels have done me in.
5. An extra suitcase for all the books I’m taking home.
Delancey Stewart: my laptop, deodorant, something to write on/with, chaptstik, and my most outgoing happy-to-be-peopling personality (this one takes a lot of energy, so I can’t use it all the time!)
Rae: What is your snack attack must haves in your day bag?
Jennifer: I’m not a big snacker! But my go to is a Kind bar – they’re not packed full of sugar and junk – you need good fuel at a conference lol. But there’s nothing wrong with a little chocolate like a Hershey Kiss or Dove bar – yum!
Avery: I love RX bars! Highly recommend.
Delancey: I like Raisinets. But I have learned that eating a while box has certain… ramifications… we will say no more about this.
Rae:What’s the one thing you forget to pack and swear to remember next time?
Jennifer: Hair spray/finishing product. And then my hair frizzes like crazy and I cannot believe I brought nothing to tame it!
Avery: I have forgotten just about everything. Thank god Kimberly Kincaid was generous and shared when I’d forgotten deodorant.
Delancey: If I could remember what the thing was, I would never forget to pack it. This is a question that can only be answered at the conference. Once I forgot underwear. That wasn’t good.
Rae: Thank you so much authors! Readers, what’s the ONE thing you always forget and swear to include next time when you travel? How do you make sure that you remember ;).
I’ll be keeping a running list and will post it a week before #RWA19 so that hopefully no one needs to make a quick run to the lobby market or drug store around the corner. I’ll see you soon for new authors and more ideas!

About Jennifer Probst:
Jennifer Probst wrote her first book at twelve years old. She bound it in a folder, read it to her classmates, and hasn’t stopped writing since. She holds a masters in English Literature and lives in the beautiful Hudson Valley in upstate New York. Her family keeps her active, stressed, joyous, and sad her house will never be truly clean. Her passions include horse racing, Scrabble, rescue dogs, Italian food, and wine—not necessarily in that order.
She is the New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of sexy and erotic contemporary romance. She was thrilled her book, The Marriage Bargain, spent 26 weeks on the New York Times. Her work has been translated in over a dozen countries, sold over a million copies, and was dubbed a “romance phenom” by Kirkus Reviews. She is also a proud three-time RITA finalist.
She loves hearing from readers. Visit her website for updates on new releases and her reader group at www.jenniferprobst.com.
About Avery Flynn:
USA Today bestselling romance author Avery Flynn has three slightly-wild children, loves a hockey-addicted husband and is desperately hoping someone invents the coffee IV drip.
She fell in love with romance while reading Johanna Lindsey’s Mallory books. It wasn’t long before Avery had read through all the romance offerings at her local library. Needing a romance fix, she turned to Harlequin’s four books a month home delivery service to ease the withdrawal symptoms. That worked for a short time, but it wasn’t long before the local book stores’ staff knew her by name.
Avery was a reader before she was a writer and hopes to always be both. She loves to write about smartass alpha heroes who are as good with a quip as they are with their *ahem* other God-given talents. Her heroines are feisty, fierce and fantastic. Brainy and brave, these ladies know how to stand on their own two feet and knock the bad guys off theirs.

Today in the cafe is Author Denny Bryce sharing her thoughts as we post our final few days this week.
Denny S. Bryce’s Classic BAD Packing Tips (and a travel note 🙂 )…
And yes, these tips are based on experience (things, I’ve actually done). And believe me, I wish I were pretending, but just ask some of my pals– Avery Flynn, Pintip Dunn, Vanessa Riley, Xio Axelrod, Veronica Forand, Leslye Penelope—tell me, these aren’t classic DENNY moments :)!
Packing Tip #1: Do not pack until the night before. Seriously, why do it a moment sooner, what do you accomplish? You just keep going back to the suitcase and hunting for things you need, which you likely packed first, which then means, you must empty the suitcase to find what you need. Stress can be minimized, I swear, by packing the night before!
Packing Tip #2: Bring only three-inch heels to show off your gams as you walk around the cement streets of NYC. You can always buy a pair of flats on the corner (plenty of corner shopping carts in NYC). The shoes will last a lifetime, too (add manic laugh, here).
Packing Tip #3: Don’t bring a makeup bag – leave it on the bed, under the sheets. That way, you can make the trip (10 blocks, I believe) to Macy’s and buy all new makeup.
Travel Tip #1 and Only: Arrive at all airports 30 minutes before the departure time. Do not RUN through airports, do not pre-arrange your TSA credentials, and do not worry – missing a flight is not the worst thing in the world! It’s par for how I like to roll!
Can’t wait to see you at RWA’s 2019 annual conference! NYC here we come!
Rae: Thank you so much Denny!
Readers, what’s the ONE thing you always forget and swear to include next time when you travel? How do you make sure that you remember ;).
I’ll be keeping a running list and will post it later this week so that hopefully no one needs to make a quick run to the lobby market or drug store around the corner. I’ll see you soon for new authors and more ideas!
